Linda's 2012 Tvb Series - Review by Han

Now that 2012 is over, let's review Linda's TVB series for 2012.  This year Linda was part of 5 different series.  Here are my thoughts on the roles and the dramas.  **warning: contains spoilers
L'Escargot - Kwan Ka Lok
At the start of the drama I really liked Linda's character.  She cared a lot for her family and this will mean she will do anything in order to protect her them.  However, due to her naive and innocent nature she easily made the wrong decisions, which led to a whole mess in the storyline.

I felt that the character was too inconsistent in terms of development, though I can't help but pity Ka Lok.  She is so pure and naive and this was how Michael took advantage of her. Then again I was so frustrated when she didn't have the courage to tell Michael to 'get lost' or tell Ron the reason why she cheated.  I'm sure he would have understood.  It kind of showed in the scene where he spent a day to rethink and finds out that he truly loved her and decided to go find her, but Michael beat him to it arghh.  After Linda's character cheated with Michael Tse the character development just went downhill.  Why can she not make up her mind on who she likes?  Why did she run away from Michael saying that she hates him and then comes running back to him, it just doesn't make any sense?

She had a loving partner played by Ron Ng.  Ron was simply the sweetest guy that every girl would dream of having.  I really hoped that when the truth was revealed, she would be able to gain Ron's trust again and they can be together in the end.  But life is not always like fairy tales with happy endings.  At least she was able to finally wake up and slap Michael (finally).

On another note I liked the scenes when she's with her family.  She and Michael Miu makes a convincing sibling relationship.  It was sweet to see how much she cared for her siblings, Oscar and Him Law, which was why she thought borrowing money from Michael will help them pay off Oscar's debt.

Overall not my favourite series however I did enjoy Linda pairing up with Ron Ng.  They were such a cute couple, I really hope to see them collaborate again.

Daddy Good Deeds - Ko You Chu
This is Linda's fifth time collaborating with Steven Ma and I really love this pairing.  I never get bored of Linda and Steven since they have such great chemistry together.  This was one of the series that I really enjoyed Linda's character, especially since it was also a comedy (Her facial expressions were really cute!).  I really like family-comedy dramas because they are entertaining to watch.

Linda portrayed a cop who was quite clumsy but had a kind heart.  I felt sorry for her character when she found out that Chris had cheated on her.  She was standing there, watching her dad yell at Chris and crying silently.  It was sweet of Steven to lend her his shoulder.  The scene where she sings Rayamond Lam's song 'Ngoi bat kau' with so much emotion, it really proves no matter how strong you are love can tear you apart (perhaps not the best way to describe it, but well you all know what I mean).  I really did feel her heart break and especially since the song was about 'letting go'.  I really enjoyed the scenes with Steven, they were just too cute.  I loved the badminton scene when she took Steven's racquets and used it to catch the thief, that was hilarious!

Not only did I enjoy Linda and Steven's character, I also liked Edwin's role as Ah Yap.  He was too adorable and made me laugh so much (his haircut was very unique).  I really liked the relationship between the three friends, it was really nice to see them care for one another.  So sweet!

I'm glad there was a happy ending for the two and they even have a kid.  It was similar to A Watchdog's Tale, where they also started off as a bickering couple and ended up together and with a kid.

Again great performance by Linda.  She really did make me laugh and the overall storyline was enjoyable.  My family loved it!

House of Harmony and Vengeance - Bin Yuk Yin
One of my least favourite Linda series of the year so not much I can recall for a review.  I felt Linda's acting was too unnatural portraying an evil character.  Though I guess she performed well, since I felt sorry for Myolie's character most of the time because Linda was so nasty to her.  I also couldn't watch the pairing between Linda and Bobby and Evergreen Mak.  It was too weird.

On a side note I really liked the costumes in the drama, except the hairstyles.  This was the only hair style I liked on Linda through the whole series:

Witness Insecurity: Hailey Kiu
This was my favourite Linda series of the year, I will write my thoughts in another post since I have a lot to say.

Lastly, Missing You
I have yet to see this series, but I have been catching snippets of it.  Can't wait to watch it fully.  Linda's character reminds me of her character from Heart of Greed.  Also this is Jason's first time staring in a leading role so cant wait to see it, even though I've heard reviews saying that his acting is not that great.  However they do look cute together.

This ends my thoughts for Linda's 2012 series, so what was your favourite Linda series of 2012?

My Favorite Linda Characters

Hello everyone, I'm Ginny, a new co-author here! :) I haven't seen all of Linda's series yet, but I still wanted to talk about my favorite Linda characters. So, here are my top 5:

5- Ko Yu Chu in Daddy Good Deeds
This is the last completed serie of Linda that I watch and I really liked Ko Yu Chu's character. She was very funny (The whole serie was funny :P) but she was also a very warm-hearted cop. I also really enjoyed the family relationships because each character was extremely family-orientated.

4- Miss Koo in Yes, Sir! Sorry, Sir!
I think this serie really showed a different side of Linda's acting and she really did a good job at acting cool. Throughout the serie, it was interesting how her relationships with others (Law sir, Miss Hoo and the students) changed from cool and serious to kind and friendly.

3- Ng Say-duk in Can't Buy Me Love
In this serie, I liked Linda's character because she was so friendly, kind and honest, like when she revealed that Chiu Yeung was the real princess and not her. It was also funny to see how much she could eat and how strong she was in the first episodes :)

2-Yu So Sam in Moonlight resonance
This serie was the first serie I ever watched and also my favorite serie! It made me like Linda, Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen, Raymond Lam, Bosco, Chris Lai and Michelle Yim. It was also because of this serie that I started watching other TVB series...so...Yu So Sam was definetly my favorite character in the whole serie. She was very honest, like when she told the truth to the police about her grandmother's death. She was intelligent and made good decisions, even if it was though for her to betray her mother. Her relationship with Goon Ga Jai  (Raymond) was also very interesting, how they loved each other when they were young, how they came back together, Ah Sam's mother's opposition, how they can't be together because of their different social class and because they're stepsiblings, how Dr.Ling (Bosco) came in between them...etc. So I really really really enjoyed this serie!! ;)

1- Sze Ka Ka in A Journey Called Life
Sze Ka Ka is my favorite role of Linda yet. I LOVED to see her evolution, how she was became from a "bad girl" to a well-behaved girl after her friend's death, how her hairstlye and clothes changed, how her relation with Shing Yat-On (Steven) and his family changed and how her relation with her own parents changed. Her relationship with Shing Yat-On also went through many obstacles, like his mother's opposition, their marriage ruined by Ka Ka's stepmom and the loss of their baby. So, this is my favorite character of Linda because we could really see how she evoluated all through the serie :)

[News] Edwin Siu makes it through hard times and avoids being arrogant

Making his debut in the entertainment industry that originally as a singer, Edwin makes it through the hard times and has gained popularity in the recent times. A while ago while in an interview he commented that he is still not up to standard and needs to work harder, but feels that his acting is already better than before. Edwin has attempted to hit the Chinese markets in the past, and admitted that he felt unaccustomed to the Hong Kong entertainment industry when he returned to Hong Kong, but he luckily managed to adapt after a period of time. Thinking back of the gossip and rumours during his time as a singer, the one which stated disharmony between him and Juno Mak was the most impressionable. Edwin stated his thoughts, “There were plenty of opportunities in the past, where each and everyone of them is able to allow me to rise to the skies. After that I have no idea what happened, even making a statement draws lots of comments from the public, all the worst news found their way to me, but I do think that it is a good lesson learnt.”

Linda, who participated in the same interview as Edwin, is obviously luckier than him, but actually she suffered emotional ups and downs as well. She said, “Perhaps it is because I have filmed a lot of sad characters, as well as the fact that I am quite an introvert.” Well, luckily she has opened up herself to friends who managed to comfort her.

[News] Jump Out of Linda

**once again, title might not be accurate.
Say goodbye to the couple

[Daddy Good Deeds] ratings had an average of 30 points and the highest was 35 points, which became the most highest rating drama. Regarding about the good ratings, Linda said: "Of course happy! From drama's that I've shooted, this drama mostly have the house feel. This script really is good and detailed, everybody worked together happily just like family. Good ratings good proves that behalf of everyone's efforts wasn't a waste. I also liked Ko Yu Chu this character, really happy and a lot of positive energy." Facing the TV war which gave rise to [leaving], so for Linda who has entered in entertainment industry for 8 years, has seen many colleagues leaving, she said: "Many people has asked 否唔捨得 if I will miss them to leave? - No I won't miss, actually this circle is really small. They changed to different company, does that mean there's no chance to work together? - I think if there's a chance, will meet again quickly." Between the lines seems to imply that something, so Linda added: "And 私底下 secretly we would come out to eat dinner so it's OK!" Having said that but Linda first time shooting a drama was [Virtues Of Harmony - 皆大歡喜] after acting as a couple with Steven Ma, the following was [A Journey Called Life – 金石良緣], [A Watchdog's Tale - 老友狗狗], [Ghost Writer - 蒲松齡] and [Daddy Good Deeds - 當旺爸爸], all established as "情侶檔" a couple that works. Linda also says: "In this job, rarely in the 5 sets of drama to play as a couple, even when Michael Tao and Kenix Kwok they only continued in the sequel. This fate is really rare, therefore I will treasure."

Suddenly explodes lame joke

Speaking of maintaining feelings, I believe Linda is the master whether with colleagues or separated in different places with her family. Being able to keep good feelings with parents and family, Linda has indeed spent a lot of time and hard work. "Everyday when waking up I will switch on my ipad and then connect to video, when I brush my teeth mum will see. Even if only two minutes or half an hour, I will try and keep chatting to my family for as long as possible, everyday I will also say to them I Love You." Linda calls Chinese people they need "face", so they will not just tell people 'I Love You' particularly to their important family. She explains: "Never know what tomorrow will be like, is it when you loose them you will think it's too late? Why not be brave and say?" So Linda has recently successfully fought for a month holiday that could not wait to return to Canada with family gatherings to take the opportunity to celebrate.

Linda is very straight forward with her family and also admitted that we do argue, often there is someone who would admit they wrong. That's right! Every-time admits they're wrong is the well-behaved Linda. She said with a smile: "Haha! My name is Chung Ka Yan is correct, I'm always only in the middle and hope everything is average." When finished, near by was the make-up artist, hair stylist and publicists have used [藐 - mau] explode the attitude as a lame joke. But Linda continued to explain: "Sometimes friends will argue, both sides will talk to me and tell me to support them. But at the end I will only stand in the middle, will find a solution to let them relax a little".

Shooting sexy advert

Linda who is within TVB when filming hard for a drama, in particular a time when everyone is fighting to be higher up and also filming drama's that only has 2-4 hours rest. Especially at the time when filming , although many scenes was when all members was there, but most outdoor scenes was her and Steven Ma. The rest period was little adding on that she also acted as a police woman which didn't have to run around the streets. But sometimes when running have to run 10-9 hours, so when going home is really miserable.

"Whenever there is a small break even if only a few hours, I will go home and have a shower and relax a little, so it will wash away the "攰氣 bad air" and stress". Linda also revealed that when having a shower she would sing. As far shower gel she likes to have that almonds and olives contained. "After shower I don't like the skin and tension feel, so shower gel and moisture of the skin care products is most important, especially with the HK weather it's not stable. Today humidity is 20%, tomorrow can rise to 80%. Sometimes I will use the essence of almond and olive oil DIY skin care products, for example I would do the hair-mask or add sugar to do the 磨砂 scrub. Also after a shower I wouldn't wipe all the water off body, I will take advantage of this to apply moisturizing products". Linda who recently served as the Dettol spokesperson says she has dry skin and it's sensitive, she shouted: "It's really annoying! So I tried those products that are okay as I know it's safe!" When it comes to shooting the shower gel ad, Linda who has always been well-behaved female image and also knew the advert is going to be sexy. But saying that she has grown up, it is time a change!

[News] Filming crying drama, scared will be like Sammi Cheng, Linda Chung returns to Canada to charge

2002, only 18 years old Linda Chung elected "Miss Chinese in Vancouver" Champion, following year to participate in the "Miss Chinese International in Hong Kong". And then three type of champion to join the entertainment industry. With the pure image, Linda constantly has had the opportunity to have a role to act. 2006 won the "Most Improved Female Artistes Award" highly touted.

2007, Linda with the drama "Heart of Greed - 溏心風暴" who acted as「常在心」character, 「crybaby 喊包」image was popular, back again with the "Moonlight Resonance - 家好月圓" who acted as「于素心」and last year's "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir - 點解阿Sir係阿Sir", made 'crybaby' image accepted by the public, even more it made "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir" drama become a hot candidate for "Best Actress".

Linda cry collapsed the whole city and successfully moved the audience. Supposed to make their own physical or mental harm, have been under pressure, she was suspected to be like Sammi Cheng who was suffering from depression. So to maintain herself, recently she decided to return home in Canada, rest for two months to fully re-charge.

Recently in her drama "Daddy Good Deeds - 當旺爸爸" Linda acts as a policewoman role for the first time, originally didn't love an action role herself, actually shouted filmed happily and relax. Also it's her to enter the industry for seven years, the second drama while shooting the edning, she cried as she didn't want to finish. One reason is that in the drama who plays my father 夏雨 Ha Yu, we had real father-daughter relationship.

Filming like real father-daughter relationship

During filming, every day when Ha Yu finishes he would personally drive his car and take Linda home. Which made her felt "family" warmth. "Usually when we're in the car we talk a lot of things, til the end of the last day we went quiet. I originally wanted to say: "Thanks dad for driving me everyday, in my heart I am really warm." I finally didn't say it, only said that this is your last day for driving me, he then said: Don't be silly! How is this the last time! I see him wait till I walk in the house then he goes. I immediatly thought back when I first joined the industry, dad always come and look for me, I send him to the airport those scenes. So when I returned home I immedialty cried! Really didn't want it to end. Filmed so many drama's, the first drama "Virtues of Harmony II - 皆大歡喜" will only didn't want to finish!"

Linda frankly glad that this drama she gets to play silly, respect family as "Ko Yu Chu", can bring a smile everyday to work "Always crying really makes yourself depression, do you know that filming a crying scene is injure/bad for your body! Every tears is really real tears, you have to make yourself sad first so that it will touch people. So when finished filming sad scenes, will need time to clear up the mood, but everytime I have no time to do this as it is hard. So when filming Daddy Good Deeds this sort of relaxing type, I can handle this and I feel relaxed to act, like if I was taking a break."

Don't want to use crybaby to view the viewers

Regarding to 'crybaby' image accepted by the public, Linda thinks that she is not'crybaby' type. "Actually which female role doesn't need to cry? I don't have to keep filming crying scenes, it's just because everyone focus on the crying area. I played Miss Koo who only cried in the last 3 scenes, but carry on crying will scare everyone to numbness, I don't want to use crybaby to view the viewers. It's like when I was small I liked to eat Big Mac, eating 6 a day would get bored, viewers will be the same. Hope the producers can try out to use different type of role, real me don't really like to cry! I'm also waiting for a chance to act evil, ugly or mental handicap role. I can picture myself already!

For Linda, the highest on record is in a year to film six drama's with long-term no rest. Body is beginning to send out signal, during the interview she also had a flu and high temperature which she had to lay-off two months of rest, to avoid suffer like Sammi Cheng and Maggie Cheung. "Apart from mind the body constitution is really poor, every month I catch a cold then eczema appaear that's when I know there's a signal. After I looked at Maggei Cheung and Sammi Cheng interview and thought these two had same symptom as me, then that's when I knew I had to take a break. Yes, in life there is many chances in front of you, but when you have not got a healthy body then it's useless."

Thoughts: Unlike before, Linda knows when she needs her break and won't try to push herself so hard as before because she understands her health is the most important :)

Haha I did not know that Linda was so close to Ha Yu :) He did praised Linda before when they were filming Moonlight Resonance and wishes that he could have a daughter as well-behaved as Linda. Very sweet ;)

Linda Chung: Steven Ma Accompanied Me Through Stormy Weathers

Thoughts: An interesting read! Both Steven and Linda were asked to draw something (anything) and what you see is what they drew :) Linda wishes for Steven to return and Steven drew a butterfly because he knew it is her favourite. They are so sweet.

I really do hope that they can collaborate again one day :)

In Virtues of Harmony 2, there were many good teachers teaching me how to act. I recall this one scene about (Michelle) Hung Bak Lam having a terminal disease so she thought of ways to make Ivan Sze Gee San (Steven Ma) leave her. When she went to the airport to send Ivan off, Steven told me to show my side profile first then slowly turn around toward him and cry, the outcome would be that much more effective. Even now I still continue using this crying method Steven taught me.

A Journey Called Life

During this period I was at low tide, also the period my homesickness was really intense. I am very grateful having Steven constantly encouraging me and putting up with me. In this series, I portrayed a wet miu. (party girl(?)) with lots of family problems. Also had a stillborn scene. The script closely relates to real life. Can be said among Steven and my collaborated works to be my most favorite and satisfied one.

A Watchdog’s Tale

This series let me see the other side of Steven. I did not expect that shod in flip-flops he could be so uncouth (ma lat) totally departed from his normal refined and polite image. And since this is a comedy, during the shooting my mood was not too heavy.

Ghost Writer

During VOH2's filming I was a rather cheerful woman, but during Ghost Writer's filming it can be said that I fell to the lowest pit. The years within the entertainment circle was like a rubber band tightening around me; it finally snapped during this period. I realized I was not suited for an entertainment lifestyle plus I didn’t have my family in Hong Kong. I was depressed. Plus I suffered constant insomnia. And had bad skin. I knew that Steven at seeing me thus was worried but did not know what to do so kept his silence, staying by my side quietly supporting me. Fortunately, now, on the whole, I have re-adapted to this lifestyle. I try to do more stuff that I enjoy. Also know how to better communicate with friends and to share my concerns, so can gradually cross over deep pits. During Daddy Good Deeds’ shooting, Steven finally saw that I had become more and more sanguine. I’m very grateful to this good brother of mine who has always stood by me and supported me.

Linda’s 'Draw Something' for Steven.

Steven is my good brother, who has witnessed my up and down moods since I entered the industry. He has stayed by my side the whole time. Even though he has now left the company I still hope that Steven, who has not only accompanied me throughout my growth but is also a good partner who worked well with me, can return to my side to continue making more good series.

Steven Ma: Linda Chung is Like My Younger Sister.

Virtues of Harmony 2

This is Linda’s first series, I thought this woman was very pretty, and a bit shy, very well-behaved (guai) and ingenuous. During that time, I constantly had lunch with her to chitchat so that she would be more relax. I recall saying this to her: “This field is not all that complex. But opportunity always exists for one to turn bad. So in everything must put in efforts to learn from it. The most important thing is not to go down the wrong path. To this day, she still manages to do that, and is also still a good woman.(guai nui)

A Journey Called Life

She has matured, her acting skill has also improved, especially her emoting feelings has improved enormously. Our collaborations are mostly small productions, this series is no exception. The story content emulates real life's happenings. It talks about us being husband and wife. It was our second collaboration, but our relationship seems to have gone a notch up, more like brother and sister. To this day, she still calls me ‘gor gor’.

A Watchdog’s Tale

We officially filmed a comedy series, laughter was constant. Also, our characters underwent a big change. I was crude and slovenly, a total uncouth man (malat zai). While she had on this short hair wig to portray a tomboy. Totally a Wu Jun lookalike. Haha! This series increased our tacit understanding of each other. I recall during the shooting, I commented that no series could possibly pose a problem to us because we already knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses so could mutually compensate each other’s deficiency.

Ghost Writer

During this period Linda had serious insomnia, very edgy all the time, and her skin was bad too. Plus the character in the series endured many grievances so that affected her moods too. Could see that it was a tough period for her. I was concerned for her. At the time, I constantly urged her to take rests, to do exercise because besides relieving stress, it can also affect the spirit. After that, we filmed our own separate series, but we still kept in touch and I knew her situation underwent a positive turnaround. During Daddy Good Deeds, she seemed much more happier. At the last (DGD promo), she told me that she do aerobics once every week to keep fit. She seems to be in good spirits. I’m happy for her, and also feel more at ease (on lok) about her.

Steven’s 'Draw Something' for Linda

There was this one scene that was shot at a jewelry store. During the break Linda was taken by a butterfly pendant and so for the first time in her life she bought a diamond pendant. She said she loves butterflies a lot and that whenever she sees one she would be very happy. I remember what she said, so today I especially drew a butterfly to make her happy.

Steven once spoke out on Linda's behalf subsequently incurring TVB's wrath.

Steven Ma: TVB should do some self- reflection.

The male lead in PSL (Ghost Writer) and also Linda’s most collaborated partner-in-crime and good friend, Steven Ma revealed that witnessing her tearful break down distressed him. “The main reason was due to exhaustion from over work. Too tiring! She’s always been very anxious about her work performance; she had to film series, cut records, and film movies at the same time; always insisted in doing them all perfectly. So bringing on constant insomnia. Her mother wasn’t here in Hong Kong, so I made Ching pu leung herbal tea and watercress soup for her, and also constantly chatted with her. But the most important thing is for her to get some rest….” Linda by nature is pliant so did not dare demur when given series projects to do.

Steven entreated: “TVB really needs to re-examine her workload arrangement! Although she is a tvb managed artiste but still management needs to properly plan her workload. Piling her with a heavy workload and having her doing it all is not necessarily a good thing. She has to be able to handle it. Have to see if 'xiu pang yao' (young friend) can even breathe first? Even if she can do it, she won’t look good (leng), and her voice won’t sound good either! Sooner or later, she will be wrung dried, her health neglected.”

[News] Linda Chung careless about what family thinks when choosing a boyfriend

TVB FaDan Linda Chung and Ha Yu were promoting for their new series Daddy Good Deeds on the talk show Fam and Kam earlier. The on-screen father-daughter talked about their family and relationship life on the show. Linda rarely mentions about her relationships, but she reveals she once brought her boyfriend to meet her parents: "Although my parents are very enthusiastic in welcoming him, but after they kept talking to me about this person!" Also, she's a person that can easily give in, and often gets affected by her family's opinions. However, when choosing a partner, she said: "I won't give up on a relationship because my family opposes. I understand that there needs to be experiences in a relationship in order for it to grow!" As for Linda's father from the series, Ha Yu said in real life, he fails at being a father because his kids grew up overseas and he didn't get to watch them grow.
