Linda's 2012 Tvb Series - Review by Han

Now that 2012 is over, let's review Linda's TVB series for 2012.  This year Linda was part of 5 different series.  Here are my thoughts on the roles and the dramas.  **warning: contains spoilers

L'Escargot - Kwan Ka Lok
At the start of the drama I really liked Linda's character.  She cared a lot for her family and this will mean she will do anything in order to protect her them.  However, due to her naive and innocent nature she easily made the wrong decisions, which led to a whole mess in the storyline.

I felt that the character was too inconsistent in terms of development, though I can't help but pity Ka Lok.  She is so pure and naive and this was how Michael took advantage of her. Then again I was so frustrated when she didn't have the courage to tell Michael to 'get lost' or tell Ron the reason why she cheated.  I'm sure he would have understood.  It kind of showed in the scene where he spent a day to rethink and finds out that he truly loved her and decided to go find her, but Michael beat him to it arghh.  After Linda's character cheated with Michael Tse the character development just went downhill.  Why can she not make up her mind on who she likes?  Why did she run away from Michael saying that she hates him and then comes running back to him, it just doesn't make any sense?

She had a loving partner played by Ron Ng.  Ron was simply the sweetest guy that every girl would dream of having.  I really hoped that when the truth was revealed, she would be able to gain Ron's trust again and they can be together in the end.  But life is not always like fairy tales with happy endings.  At least she was able to finally wake up and slap Michael (finally).

On another note I liked the scenes when she's with her family.  She and Michael Miu makes a convincing sibling relationship.  It was sweet to see how much she cared for her siblings, Oscar and Him Law, which was why she thought borrowing money from Michael will help them pay off Oscar's debt.

Overall not my favourite series however I did enjoy Linda pairing up with Ron Ng.  They were such a cute couple, I really hope to see them collaborate again.

Daddy Good Deeds - Ko You Chu
This is Linda's fifth time collaborating with Steven Ma and I really love this pairing.  I never get bored of Linda and Steven since they have such great chemistry together.  This was one of the series that I really enjoyed Linda's character, especially since it was also a comedy (Her facial expressions were really cute!).  I really like family-comedy dramas because they are entertaining to watch.

Linda portrayed a cop who was quite clumsy but had a kind heart.  I felt sorry for her character when she found out that Chris had cheated on her.  She was standing there, watching her dad yell at Chris and crying silently.  It was sweet of Steven to lend her his shoulder.  The scene where she sings Rayamond Lam's song 'Ngoi bat kau' with so much emotion, it really proves no matter how strong you are love can tear you apart (perhaps not the best way to describe it, but well you all know what I mean).  I really did feel her heart break and especially since the song was about 'letting go'.  I really enjoyed the scenes with Steven, they were just too cute.  I loved the badminton scene when she took Steven's racquets and used it to catch the thief, that was hilarious!

Not only did I enjoy Linda and Steven's character, I also liked Edwin's role as Ah Yap.  He was too adorable and made me laugh so much (his haircut was very unique).  I really liked the relationship between the three friends, it was really nice to see them care for one another.  So sweet!

I'm glad there was a happy ending for the two and they even have a kid.  It was similar to A Watchdog's Tale, where they also started off as a bickering couple and ended up together and with a kid.

Again great performance by Linda.  She really did make me laugh and the overall storyline was enjoyable.  My family loved it!

House of Harmony and Vengeance - Bin Yuk Yin
One of my least favourite Linda series of the year so not much I can recall for a review.  I felt Linda's acting was too unnatural portraying an evil character.  Though I guess she performed well, since I felt sorry for Myolie's character most of the time because Linda was so nasty to her.  I also couldn't watch the pairing between Linda and Bobby and Evergreen Mak.  It was too weird.

On a side note I really liked the costumes in the drama, except the hairstyles.  This was the only hair style I liked on Linda through the whole series:

Witness Insecurity: Hailey Kiu 
This was my favourite Linda series of the year, I will write my thoughts in another post since I have a lot to say.

Lastly, Missing You
I have yet to see this series, but I have been catching snippets of it.  Can't wait to watch it fully.  Linda's character reminds me of her character from Heart of Greed.  Also this is Jason's first time staring in a leading role so cant wait to see it, even though I've heard reviews saying that his acting is not that great.  However they do look cute together.

[News] Linda Chung Denies Race Wong is 3rd Party, Relationship with Philip Ng Never Changed

Yesterday Linda Chung, Jason Chan, Lin Xiawei, Calvin Chan, Cilla Lok and Mandy Lam attended the promotional event for TVB series Missing You. Linda expressed after she finishes shooting Brother's Keeper (formerly "Big Wheel") at the end of this month, she will be going on vacation and hopes to have a full 2 month break. It was rumored, Race Wong from the duo 2R has been involved in between Linda and rumored boyfriend Philip Ng's relationship. Linda calmly replied: "That's so funny! Sometimes it is rumored that we are together and other times we're breaking up! We still have a good relationship, just as before!" She stressed she and Race are long time good friends, they frequently go out for dinner and catch up. It's just recently they have been busy and haven't been in touch as much. When asked if she's afraid Race may get in between their relationship? Linda said: "If there are rumors that they are together, I would die laughing. (You have confidence?) I clearly know my friend's relationship!" Linda stressed Philip is just like her, a filial 'home boy'. Linda won't gossip on the reason why Race and Jacky Heung broke up and its normal for someone who had just fallen out of love to talk to a good friend. As for Philip's new film Young and Dangerous Reloaded is playing soon? Linda said: "I will see if I have time to go support him. I'm happy for him serving as the HK film action choreographer for the first time, congrats to him!"

[Magazine] Linda Chung & Jason Chan - Happiness Left and Right

In the new series Missing You, the concept of tracing services is conveyed through the organization "See Ming Seh" and the cases that come along with it. Separated families reuniting may be something that could never happen, happiness is not inevitable.

Turns Out There's Fate

In the past, Linda Chung had Steven Ma, Moses Chan (and Raymond Lam) as her popular on-screen partners. It wasn't until last year, she started working with other actors and created new sparks. Following Witness Insecurity's fate with Bosco Wong, this time she collaborates with a new partner, Jason Chan in new series Missing You. The series revolves around the concept of tracing services, the two are partners working in the tracing service organization "See Ming Seh" and eventually develop a relationship.

Although this is their first collaboration, the two quickly developed chemistry since Jason grew up in England and Linda grew up in Canada, so the two are considered 'westernized'. Jason said: "Perhaps we both grew up overseas, so we have common topics and easily developed chemistry." It turns out this isn't Jason and Linda's first collaboration because shortly after their debuts, Linda already had roles with slightly more screen time, Jason laughed and said that time, he just graduated from the TVB Artistes Training Class and didn't turn down any role. He started off as an Extra standing behind Linda. Linda said: "If Jason didn't take out the photo, I wouldn't be able to remember that he was in Heavenly In-Laws. Perhaps that time, he had on a fake mustache, but now mentioning this again, I find it funny."

At first Jason concentrated more on hosting, and so he's considered inexperienced in acting. This is his first series in which he played the leading role. Facing this new partner, Linda praised he's willing to learn and listen. "In terms of a newcomer, Jason really works hard and is willing to learn. Also, he isn't afraid to ask, so he improves faster than others." Jason said he's still a newcomer, and must continue to learn. "As a newcomer, there are many things I need to absorb and be willing to listen. If you are willing to share, I am willing to listen. As the director said, I try my best to absorb and digest all of the pointers my colleagues give me because we all want the series to do well."

After filming series for several years, Linda is still seeking new breakthroughs, challenges and genres. First time coming into contact with the refreshing theme of a tracing services, Linda said: "Because there is a lot to learn in tracing services, TVB made arrangements for us to interview the HK Red Cross Tracing Service team prior to filming. There were only 2-4 people working in that department, which is the same as 'See Ming Seh' from the series. They explained to us the mechanism, operations and methods of tracing. They even told us about special cases. I remember one case was about someone who was a clone, and hoped to find his father. We couldn't believe there was such case that exist. After hearing about these real cases, I felt very emotional because it was all about separated families. Imagining this happening to myself, if I lost my brother and sister, I would want to find them no matter what it takes. If it takes me 40 years to do it, that feeling is really indescribable."

Observing on the Side

Linda was touched by all the cases from the series. She hopes the audience will be able to understand more about tracing services through this series and she's grateful for the group of senior-level guest stars that participated in each of the cases. They did all their homework and their acting made the cases even more touching. "I like this series because I can be an observer. Each day, I watch my seniors do the acting and I'm the one feeling their problem, its better than me telling my story. So, I'm really grateful of all the senior-level artists and all the other guest stars, who played the younger versions. Without their participation in this series, our cases wouldn't be successful. This time, there are a lot of seniors, such as Lau Kong, Ngok Wah, Law Lan and Law Lok Lam, etc. I learned a lot from them. I'm paired up with Jason in this series, I love our story. Listening to their stories and watching their acting skills, I have even more motivation to make this series really good."

Can't Care Too Much

About her relationship with Jason's role, Linda said: "In the series, it was my first time being a social worker. He's the See Hing (big bro) with lots of experience. Since my character is rather pessimistic, many times I think of the negative side of things. He has like a sunshine personality, he's optimistic and helped me learn to relax and slowly I started having feelings for him. Unfortunately, he already had a really good girlfriend (Lin Xiawei), so I could just keep my feelings inside."

One of the concerns is the TV ratings for this series, Linda said: "Many people say the ratings are very low during the Christmas and New Year holidays, but I feel there is a need for series to come out no matter what time of year it is. Also, we can now re-watch the episodes online, so we shouldn't care too much [about ratings]. The most important is the series can be broadcast, so everyone can get to know the concept and service."

Love Confession on the Street

Jason plays the super attentive "See Yik Him", but he isn't aware of his true feelings. He fell in love with Yu Fung (Linda) without knowing it. It wasn't until Yu Fung decided to leave Hong Kong and go to Australia to study with her brother and the separation with his girlfriend, that he realized he developed feelings for Yu Fung over time. To win Yu Fung back, there was one scene about Yik Him on the busy Mong Kok street confessing his love for Yu Fung. Jason said a lot of things were hard to control because of the busy street, so it made filming even more difficult. "I have never filmed such a large-scale scene before. The directors and crew had to help with the filming process. Before the cameras rolled, I was worried there would be too many people and interrupt filming, but when the cameras rolled, I didn't care about anything and just started looking for Linda hysterically on the streets. The situation at the time actually helped me get into character."

Advice from Seniors

In one case, the story is about Yik Him tracing for his family. As the case was directly related to his own character, Jason frankly expressed he spent a lot of time and effort into his performance for this case. He said: "I really like watching the emotional and the quarrel scenes from my senior-level colleagues. However, I also liked the case about my character. First, by that time I had already been filming for a period of time and it was easier for me to get into character. Secondly, the case was very touching and helped me put myself into the story. It was like I put my character into a higher level. Many thanks to my colleagues and seniors from this series, whom had led me into character."

Jason also wanted to especially thank TV King Wayne Lai, he said: "Although Wayne isn't in this series, I saw him during our breaks and chatted with him. He would tell me some of his acting experiences and that its rare to get encouragement and pointers from others. So, I'm really excited to be able to work with both Ah Mo (Moses Chan) and Wayne in new series Transfer of Love Firm."

[News] Jason Chan Touched by "Flower Buying Fate" with Linda Chung

TVB's 'best deal' Jason Chan possesses good looks, has a foreign educational background and a fluent English speaker. He's any girl's deal man. He is currently one of the rising Siu Sangs in TVB and takes on his first lead role in new series Missing You. In the series, he plays a lovable social worker and often helps the people around him.

Jason expressed before he started filming this series, he was very nervous: "Actually I started feeling very nervous a few days before the first day of shooting. I was really afraid I wouldn't be able to handle it and won't do well. However, the majority of the time while I was filming, I didn't think too much!"

When speaking of the interesting things that happened during filming, Jason frankly expressed he clicked well with his co-star Linda Chung. One time he and Linda were chatting about their small collaboration back when he first debuted. He said: "Back then I was still studying in the TVB Artistes Training class, and collaborated with her in one series. That time I just had a small role of the person selling flowers and she was my customer. That scene was just a short 1-2 minutes, I had to think about it for a really long time before I could remember, but I really felt touched that she (Linda) still remembers after so long."

But when speaking of touching moments, Jason said this year he is really thankful of all the opportunities TVB gave him. He said: "This year I had two series and I have hosting jobs. Really thank TVB. (Will you find a girlfriend to share the happiness?) Nope. If I get busier later, then I definitely won't have time to date. I rather just focus on my career."

Missing You Themesong plus Screencaptures

Anyone started on "Missing You" yet?  What do you guys think of the themesong?

The melody of the song is quite nice.  Sweet and heartwarming, fitting for the series don't you think?  As for the mv, I also like it as well.  Love the idea of the scrapbook, since the concept of the series is to help others find what they've lost (or so I think).  And scrapbooks are meant to store those special memories of our lives, which I find very fitting with the series :)
