[News] Filming crying drama, scared will be like Sammi Cheng, Linda Chung returns to Canada to charge

2002, only 18 years old Linda Chung elected "Miss Chinese in Vancouver" Champion, following year to participate in the "Miss Chinese International in Hong Kong". And then three type of champion to join the entertainment industry. With the pure image, Linda constantly has had the opportunity to have a role to act. 2006 won the "Most Improved Female Artistes Award" highly touted.

2007, Linda with the drama "Heart of Greed - 溏心風暴" who acted as「常在心」character, 「crybaby 喊包」image was popular, back again with the "Moonlight Resonance - 家好月圓" who acted as「于素心」and last year's "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir - 點解阿Sir係阿Sir", made 'crybaby' image accepted by the public, even more it made "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir" drama become a hot candidate for "Best Actress".

Linda cry collapsed the whole city and successfully moved the audience. Supposed to make their own physical or mental harm, have been under pressure, she was suspected to be like Sammi Cheng who was suffering from depression. So to maintain herself, recently she decided to return home in Canada, rest for two months to fully re-charge.

Recently in her drama "Daddy Good Deeds - 當旺爸爸" Linda acts as a policewoman role for the first time, originally didn't love an action role herself, actually shouted filmed happily and relax. Also it's her to enter the industry for seven years, the second drama while shooting the edning, she cried as she didn't want to finish. One reason is that in the drama who plays my father 夏雨 Ha Yu, we had real father-daughter relationship.

Filming like real father-daughter relationship

During filming, every day when Ha Yu finishes he would personally drive his car and take Linda home. Which made her felt "family" warmth. "Usually when we're in the car we talk a lot of things, til the end of the last day we went quiet. I originally wanted to say: "Thanks dad for driving me everyday, in my heart I am really warm." I finally didn't say it, only said that this is your last day for driving me, he then said: Don't be silly! How is this the last time! I see him wait till I walk in the house then he goes. I immediatly thought back when I first joined the industry, dad always come and look for me, I send him to the airport those scenes. So when I returned home I immedialty cried! Really didn't want it to end. Filmed so many drama's, the first drama "Virtues of Harmony II - 皆大歡喜" will only didn't want to finish!"

Linda frankly glad that this drama she gets to play silly, respect family as "Ko Yu Chu", can bring a smile everyday to work "Always crying really makes yourself depression, do you know that filming a crying scene is injure/bad for your body! Every tears is really real tears, you have to make yourself sad first so that it will touch people. So when finished filming sad scenes, will need time to clear up the mood, but everytime I have no time to do this as it is hard. So when filming Daddy Good Deeds this sort of relaxing type, I can handle this and I feel relaxed to act, like if I was taking a break."

Don't want to use crybaby to view the viewers

Regarding to 'crybaby' image accepted by the public, Linda thinks that she is not'crybaby' type. "Actually which female role doesn't need to cry? I don't have to keep filming crying scenes, it's just because everyone focus on the crying area. I played Miss Koo who only cried in the last 3 scenes, but carry on crying will scare everyone to numbness, I don't want to use crybaby to view the viewers. It's like when I was small I liked to eat Big Mac, eating 6 a day would get bored, viewers will be the same. Hope the producers can try out to use different type of role, real me don't really like to cry! I'm also waiting for a chance to act evil, ugly or mental handicap role. I can picture myself already!

For Linda, the highest on record is in a year to film six drama's with long-term no rest. Body is beginning to send out signal, during the interview she also had a flu and high temperature which she had to lay-off two months of rest, to avoid suffer like Sammi Cheng and Maggie Cheung. "Apart from mind the body constitution is really poor, every month I catch a cold then eczema appaear that's when I know there's a signal. After I looked at Maggei Cheung and Sammi Cheng interview and thought these two had same symptom as me, then that's when I knew I had to take a break. Yes, in life there is many chances in front of you, but when you have not got a healthy body then it's useless."

Thoughts: Unlike before, Linda knows when she needs her break and won't try to push herself so hard as before because she understands her health is the most important :)

Haha I did not know that Linda was so close to Ha Yu :) He did praised Linda before when they were filming Moonlight Resonance and wishes that he could have a daughter as well-behaved as Linda. Very sweet ;)

[News] Linda Chung believes Myolie Wu is internally set to get TV Queen

Wayne Lai, Sheren Tang, Linda Chung and Joyce Cheng attended the Mingpao Magazine 43rd Artist Power Awards Ceremony 2011. Wayne and Sheren were presented with the 'Most Outstanding TV Actor and Actress' awards respectively depended on their roles in No Regrets. The series also won 'Most Outstanding TV Programme Award'. The MC, Wong He, joked this is the pirated version of last year's TVB Anniversary Awards.

Wayne and Sheren stressed the success is not entirely due to their personal contributions, but depends on the efforts of the entire crew. Wayne said: "I am very lucky that I was able to shoot two really good series in my lifetime, that allowed me to get so many awards."

This year, Linda Chung is nominated for both TVB Best Actress and My Favorite TV Character awards, but didn't attend the TVB Awards press conference and announcement of the nominations that was held a few days ago. She explained: "I was on vacation. I will be going on vacation with my family soon, so I won't be participating in the TVB Anniversary show. However, I will definitely attend the awards ceremony. I am pretty pleased with my achievements this year. I have confidence to win the 'My Favorite TV Character' award. For TV Queen, I support Myolie Wu. It is not because I'm giving up on the award, but is because I still have room for improvement. I have been in the industry for 7 years, but still need to immerse myself more. I hope to get the award on my 9th or 10th anniversary." Asked if TVB internally decided to give Myolie Wu the TV Queen title? Linda said: "No, but this rumor is reasonable. She is an experienced actress and her performance is outstanding."

Last night, Linda won the reader-voted award 'Most Supported Artist Power Big Award'. This year's music newcomer, Joyce Cheng was awarded with the "Most Outstanding Female Singer Award" and the "Most Outstanding Record Award'. She appeared very emotional upon receiving the awards.

[News] Linda Chung adds assurance for success of My Favorite Female Character Award

TVB FaDan Linda Chung attended a Halloween event in Dai Po and made Halloween treats live on the spot. She also performed two songs. When speaking of the recent rumors that TVB decided internally that they will be giving her the "My Favorite Female Character Award" this year, Linda expressed she is happy and has confidence: "We won't know until the last moment. However, I really like my Miss Koo role! (They're promoting you because there aren't any other FaDans?) No, Charmaine Sheh, Jessica Hsuan and Maggie Cheung are still shooting series. Not much of a difference!"

Linda reveals that she will be shooting new series Miss Koo Spinoff next month with Bosco Wong. Clearly she is being promoted for the award. She expressed it is Producer Lau Ka Ho's idea: "He said he never seen such response for a female character. We haven't discussed the details yet, but my character is different from the last series (Yes Sir Sorry Sir)." Regarding the TV Queen title, Linda feels there is still room for improvement, so she does not dare to get it yet. She does hope one day when she gets it, it will be deserved.

[News] Linda Chung a clumsy policewoman gets into a 'hair mess' from catching thieves

As one of the hot favorites for TV Queen, Linda Chung was shooting earlier in Central for TVB new comedy series Prosperous Father. Linda plays a clumsy policewoman who got herself into a mess while trying to catch a thief. Linda did not mind at all to wreck her beautiful girl image, no wonder she has confidence for TV Queen this year! She expressed whether if it's her role in Twilight Investigations or the 'Miss Koo' in Yes Sir Sorry Sir, there was a lot to display: "The happiest is that I got to play different types of roles this year, and didn't have to be the well-behaved girl I'm used to. Lately, there has even been people on the streets calling me Miss Koo. This proves people like it, I already feel like a winner!" She said her greatest opponent in the battle for TV Queen is Myolie Wu because of her seniority and years of acting. As for herself, she just hopes for the My Favorite Character award.

Shooting another comedy, Linda laughed and said experience makes it easier, but chasing thieves and all the hurdles that came with being a police officer in the warm weather is quite difficult: "The dialog in this series is very interesting. It's always about me bumping into thieves out of the blue and many other things happen."

[News] Michael Tse Not Up To Standards, Tvb Promotes Wayne Lai And Moses Chan For The Crown

TV King for this year seems to be hovering above Kevin Cheng and Michael Tse for the time being, each gaining popularity with their characters "Law霸" and "Laughing Sir" respectively. For TV queen, it's a contest between Fala Chan and Linda Chung, with their characters "Madam Jo" and "Miss Koo" respectively. The TV King and Queen potentials share a common factor, as the initials of their characters' names are M or L, thus gaining for themselves a collective name "2M2L".

[News] Linda Chung, Poised for Explosion

"Good Girl" Linda Chung, has been going along with the training in time, from nearly falling into depression when she first entered the industry, until now, when she is filled with ambition. Linda has shown different aspects of herself, be it in singing or acting, like her lead character in [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir], where she dug up her inner "coolness". Looking back on her near-seven years of acting career, from the time when she found her name too commonplace, nearly wanting to change her name to "Chung Choi Hung" (meaning rainbow), to being being suspected of "acting innocent" by her seniors, she has been keeping to her own pace.

The 27-year-old Linda Chung was the Miss Chinese International 2004 Champion, and signed a contract with TVB to go from Vancouver to Hong Kong. November this year would mark the 7-year mark, and she would be able to receive her Hong Kong Permanent Resident pass. She has had smooth development in her career and continuous opportunities, and to date she has filmed nearly 20 dramas. 4 years ago, Linda accepted an interview and she commented that when she first came to Hong Kong alone, she fell into depression and helplessness for a period of time, but luckily she was able to pull through. Today, she has become more confident of herself.

7 Years in Entertainment, 3 Years in Self- Closure

"Actually I don't feel that I have been in the entertainment circle for 7 years already, it only feels like 3 years, the time in entertainment has passed especially quickly. I remember when I signed the contract with TVB, I told my parents, I'll try this for 2 years then I'll go back to Canada to work or get married. In the end, 2 years passed followed by another 2 years, and another, and now it has already been 7! The whole plan has changed! I really like Hong Kong, and have made many new friends here, many people love me a lot, and I will continue staying here to work. My seniors and directors say that actors will be enlightened upon their 7th year, but for acting skills to mature it would take 10-12 years. I am still in the developing stage, there are many things for me to learn. I have not set the mark for myself to be a main actress for sure, or a singer, doing my job placed in front of me is the most important." Charmaine Sheh has left Hong Kong to the Mainland for development, she is an actress with prospects, but she commented that she felt her abilities were insufficient, and needed further training.

Unhappy Experiences, Maligned to be Acting Innocent

Linda is a proclaimed good girl in the circle, she doesn't smoke, drink or pub, with an unwavering innocent personality, gaining many people's love and constructive comments. "In the past, when I was going through my hardest period, I would cry daily, pull out my hair and cry for help, and at that time there was a manager who asked me to stop going crazy, having opportunities is a good thing, I need to face them calmly, a rubber band cannot be pulled too tightly, I needed someone to scold me for me to wake up, or I would continue to wallow in self-closure. The first 3 years in industry, I didn't talk much to my manager or colleagues, when I was filming [Always Ready] I would often just buy a lunchbox and sit by myself to eat, and only let myself go in recent years, trusting in other people more, and becoming more happy.

Linda, who has had few rumours, also has had instances where she was misunderstood. "In the entertainment industry, there will be many weird misunderstandings, I remember there was one time when I went for a celebratory dinner for the completion of a series. I felt that everyone had quite good cooperation with each other, and like each other alot, but that time there was an artiste who came to me and said "Linda, I will not work with you again!" At that time, I was wondering what happened; did I offend the other person? The other person then told me "You are so lucky, I only tell you for your good, your innocence and stupidity should be for life, not halfway before being found out by someone." At that time, I was confused, the other person was saying that I was acting innocent! When did I act stupid? Although the other person may have been drunk, I was still hurt and felt maligned, I asked my friends around what had happened. The other person did not understand me at all, a resolution could not have been made. Luckily, in 7 years I have only heard such comments twice, I continue to be myself. Even if there are online comments to put me down, I will see it as motivation to do better."

Ambition to Act and Sing

Linda has an ambition in acting, "Now I do things in my own direction, other than acting, I love the feeling of going onstage to sing, I hope that I will have a chance to hold a concert, and communicate what I want to my fans. In the past, I heard Gigi Leung and Kelly Chen's songs, they are all many children's idols, and I see them as my role models. The thing that made me the most encouraged was that many children studied hard under the influence of 'Ho Choi Mui' in [Legend of the Demigods]; the role had so great an impact on the children, and I am very happy and satisfied, this cannot be measured by any award or prize. I need to continue fighting and improving, to raise higher my expectations of myself and try out more roles and genres of music, later on there might even be a fast-paced dance song, I can sing sexy songs but am afraid to shock my family members. I have many good things that I would like to show the audience, but now is not the time. Lately, my fans gave me a keyboard for my birthday present, I will use it to try to write more songs.

Previously Wanted to Change Name to "Chung Choi Hung"

Linda once found her name too common, and not 'explosive' enough for the entertainment business, thus wanting to change her name. "I never thought that "Chung Ka Yan" could accomplish so much, I always thought that 'Ka Yan' was such a commonplace name, not cool or star-like such as "Cheung Man Yu", "Chung Chor Hung", "Sheh Sze Man", even their English names "Maggie Cheung", "Kelly Chen", "Faye Wong" are all like stars' names, but mine is "Linda Chung", it does not seem star-like enough. Back then, I really wanted to change my name to "Chung Choi Hung" (Rainbow Chung) to be like the feminine, explosive "Chung Chor Hung", but in the end I gave up on it, I never knew that "Chung Ka Yan" could become such a label today.

Choice of Partner requires Two Types of Hearts

Having succes in her profession, Linda is like Moses Chan, the entertainment circle's 'featured listing'. It is inevitable that her romance life has been unlanded, rumoured boyfriends being limited only to Raymond Lam and Philip Ng, and she is still waiting for her dream man to appear. "I believe that God will give me a good man, and my future partner has to be single-minded about me, compassionate, motivated, love and dote on me, appearance is not a factor."

5 Roles, 5 Changes

Helping Linda to count, she has acted in about 20 films, but she laughed upon hearing this, "Not that many, at first there were guest appearances; those don't count, saying that I filmed 20 series makes me feel like an antique! 19 lah!"

"Sheung Joi Sum" Professional Crying
Among all her dramas, 2007's [Heart of Greed]'s Sheung Joi Sum brought Linda the most tears, and was one of her favourite characters. There were others such as Sze Ka-ka in [A Journey Called Life], Ho Choi Mui in [Legend of the Demigods], Chung Yee Tak in [Twilight Investigation], and Miss Koo in [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir], they are all her beloved characters.

"Ho Choi Mui"-- Strong, "Sze Ka-ka"-- Painful
"While acting as Sheung Joi Sum, I still had slight depression, I was unhappy and did not let myself loose, but the script was very clear about the character, anyone acting it would also succeed. (Did your rumours with Raymond Lam start from this drama?) During filming, we were all very into the show, but the rumours are not true. "Ho Choi Mui" made me very strong, and "Sze Ka-ka", the Mongkok wayward girl made me feel alot for her, she had no love, and I felt it difficult to understand upon first receiving the script, because I have a whole family with parents and elder brother and sister, and am given a lot of love. Afterwards, being exposed to real wayward girls, I slowly and gradually began to understand their situation and felt the pain during the acting.

"Chung Yee Tak" and Wong Hei
Being partnered with the infamous "Troublesome" Wong Hei, Linda conversely felt that they cooperated quite well. "I was very happy while filming [Twilight], although rumours were that Wong Hei does not cooperate well with other artistes, we had quite a happy collaboration and good relations with other artistes. "Chung Yee Tak" is a very retarded and stupid character, somewhat like my own personality, I put the way I communicate with my family into this show. Normally, I give others the idea that I am very strong, but when I go home to be with my parents, I am very soft and stupid! This is to the extent that I dance with joy."

"Miss Koo"'s Cool Side
This time, Linda played the role of Miss Koo in [Yes Sir, Sorry SIr] and displayed her cool facet. "Before, I acted as many pitiful, silly-happy characters, and having the chance to act as such a calm and composed, cool bowling coach is really a new experience for me, and I referred to [Joou no Kyoushitsu]. I personally do have a very cool side to my personality, but under normal circumstances this personality would not show through." In recent years, Linda Chung decided to play her 'happy cards', getting on happily with other artistes. She said that her happiest series filmed would be [Twilight] and [Jiujiang]. Filming [Jiujiang] was a very happy experience, artistes were like a big family and everyday there would be nice food to eat; they treated me like a doggie and bribed me using snacks, in the end I put on 7 pounds."

[News] Competing for the TV queen throne

TV queen throne has always been an appealing prize for TVB actresses. This year’s competition should not only be a fight between Charmaine Sheh and Myolie Wu. Among the actresses, Linda Chung has been recognized for her acting performance and is this year’s hopeful contestant for the throne.

(Linda Chung) She has been limited to play the “good girl”. However, in the recently ended, Yes sir, no sir, sorry sir, she touched the hearts of viewers by her astounding crying scene performance, which successfully released her from the “pretty girl” image. With her performance as Miss Koo, Linda is seen as this year’s hopeful contestant.

(Kate Tsui) She received the prize “the most improved actress” in 2007. She was promoted vigorously by TVB executive Virginia Lok. However, the shows in which she performed this year have been average. The rating of the currently ongoing “Wax and Wane” is average. Kate was not as appealing as Elanne Kwong in “Relic Of An Emissary”.

(Tavia Yeung) has been an TV actress for many years and her acting has been recognized. Unfortunately, she has been out of luck. The show “The Rippling Blossom” did not offer her an a spectacular opportunity to perform. In “yes sir, no sir, her acting did not improved prominently but was outshined by Linda Chung.

(Fala Chen) has been acting one show after the other. However, people have more concern about her love life than her acting performance. Her role in “Grace Under Fire” was less than Xuan Lui. In “Old Primary Books”, the scene of steel pipe dance has taken away focus for her acting performance. However, as the winner of “the best supporting actress” last year, Fala’s solid acting skill cannot be dismissed.

(Aimee Chan) has obviously improved since she began acting. She works hard towards her goal as a first line actress. Unfortunately, she only has few shows to act this year. Hopefully, the upcoming “The Other Truth” can make her Hacting notable to viewers. Regarding the TV queen throne competition, she should be a companion contestant.

Translated by greenb1a @ lindacottage

Thoughts: Honestly...Aimee Chan? She's too new to be considered for this...but of course, tvb really favours her. Not so good how Myolie wasn't in here....since she was in the previous articles when they were discussing about this =/ EDIT - Oops! Nevermind, Myo is in the first paragraph =)

[Interview] Linda Chung, Innocent Not Stupid

“The Jade Girl” erupted in one scene, and was recommended for TV Queen by netizens

Linda Chung, this Hong Kong entertainment industry’s “newbie female artiste” had always given people the image that she was just a Jade Girl. Other than the symbolic ‘teh’, weak and refined voice, that causes one to remember her rumours regarding her relationship with Raymond Lam, and even then she only stood by Raymond’s side, smiling sweetly like a good girl, happy to be an accompaniment. However, in the recent airing of the drama [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir], Linda moved the word in the final episode’s “Miss Cool”, and her emotional scene with her crying made others change their negative views towards her. Netizens also recommended herfor the role of TV Queen, causing quite an uproar.

Important Word toNote: Breakthrough
Obtaining the title of TV Queen is fated, I am not anxious about it

Yangcheng Wanbao: The character you portrayed, Miss Cool, in [YSSR] was very well received by the public, and the viewers even want to recommend you for the role of TV Queen. Do you have confidence to get this title?

Linda: I am really very happy! (laughs) But I never thought of getting TV Queen, if I could get the “My Favourite TV Character” award I would already be very happy. As to TV Queen, I would have to leave it to fate. Furthermore, it is only June, and there is a long time to go before the Awards, I think there is no need to be anxious.

Yangcheng Wanbao: “TV Pioneer” Charmaine Sheh will begin to change her contract with TVB. As to being one of the “Four New Best Fadans”, will you make “the top actress” your new goal?

Linda: Recently, there were really many reports comparing Kate Tsui, Myolie Wu, Fala Chen and myself, I think these are just promotional tactics. As to myself, I would most definitely have such hopes for myself, and I hope that I could get more people to approve of this. This time, I feel that my performance has been a good account to viewers.

Yangcheng Wanbao: Having been in the industry for 7 years, do you feel that it is time for a breakthrough?

Linda: Actually I don’t feel that I have been in the industry for 7 years. My seniors say, after 7 years one would be enlightened, but for acting skills to mature, 10 years is required. I personally have not reached the point where I can control my character, a lot of the time it is my character controlling me, so I feel that I am still in the learning stage. Filming is something I really like, and to me, it is not just a way of earning money, but this job brings me much satisfaction, such as the fact that my characters can become role models for children and youth. Because most of the characters I have acted as were Jade Girls, or strong personalities because of numerous experiences, many parents have told me that my characters have caused their children to become more good in nature.

Yangcheng Wanbao: From [Can’t Buy Me Love] to [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir], you have been filming many comedies in a row, would you consider leaning towards this area for future development?

Linda: I would not limit myself in the path that I am to take, I would like to try everything first. However, the ‘sexy look’ would definitely be something that I canno pull off. (laughs) I do not like exposing too much, even if it is only the thought of being sexy would not cultivate the right feel.

Yangcheng Wanbao: In the drama you are currently filming, [Yue Fu’s Hidden Dragon], what role are you playing?

Linda: A pioneer dancer. Upon receiving this role, I was still quite anxious, because dancing is not my greatest strength, but I will put in my best effort to act out this character.

Yangcheng Wanbao: You have had quite a few tries in the area of music, do you prefer singing or acting?

Linda: I like singing, because singers can express their own personality and feelings. When I am singing, I would maintain a very clean and pure image, and be myself. Currently, there are very few girls with this type of image, I feel that I can take this chance to dominate the market, haha!

Important Word to Note: Harsh Training
When I first entered the industry, it was tough and I cried everyday

Yangcheng Wanbao: Have you had any performance inclination since young?

Linda: Actually when I was young, I was a very typical girl. Graduating from high school at the age of 17, I was waiting to enter university. In those two months, I had really nothing better to do and when I was shopping, I saw an advertisement for a beauty pageant and my sister helped me get an application form and signed me up. Initially, I thought that I would finish my studies and go out to teach, I never thought of being an actress. In Canada, I was a very introverted young girl, but whenever I went on stage to perform, I would instantly change into a really confident person. When I first signed a contract with TVB, I was quite uncertain and it took me a lot of persuading to convince my parents to allow me to try out for two years. If I couldn’t make it, I would then go back to Canada to work or get married, who knew that one shot would carry me through all these 7 years.

Yangcheng Wanbao: When you first came to Hong Kong alone, without any acting experience whatsoever, that was difficult, huh?

Linda: The first drama I filmed was [Virtues of Harmony], and all the other actors were experienced ones, like Nancy Sit, Louis Yuen, and Kingdom Yuen. Although that was a comedy, I was unable to relax, and simply too nervous, when I didn’t laugh I appeared so serious, everyone around me felt that I was composed and calm, but my heart was pounding so hard in my chest. Then, I acted the most partner films with Steven Ma, and he said that I had the potential, but I wondered if he said the same to every newcomer. (laughs) During the toughest period, I cried every day. After 3 years from entering the industry, I rarely talked to other actors or others in my company, buying food and eating alone. Later, I slowly let myself go, and made a few good friends such as Shirley Yeung, Tavia Yeung and Leanne Li, confiding in each other, and helping me become happier.

Yangcheng Wanbao: Having acted so many characters, which one do you like the most?

Linda: I like too many of them, I am a very greedy person! [Heart of Greed]’s Sheung Joi Sum, [A Journey Called Life], [Legend of the Demigods], [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir],[Twilight Investigation], and another [Heavenly In-Laws], unfortunately this series never aired.

Yangcheng Wanbao: There is a great disparity among the characters of your favourite roles, are you a person that loves challenges?

Linda: I don’t know. I want to try different things, but sometimes in the midst of challenge I would feel very nervous. There was one period of time in which I was continuously acting as a “Super Good Girl”. Many scenes would need me to cry, making me almost faint with the effort of crying! Then, I really wished for a different character. I need to continually accept different characters, before I can progress!

Important Word to Note: Good Good Girl
I am naïve, but I rarely ever get bullied

Yangcheng Wanbao: There was a time in which you became the spokesperson of the “Good Girl” image, were you afraid that the image might stick at that time?

Linda: Linda Chung’s image is “Jade Girl”! Be it in real life or in my work, this is my true personality. Maybe this way, the image might have been too firmly set in the public’s mind, so people might feel that I am doing the same thing over and over again, but these few years, I have actually tried many different roles, such as the wayward girl in [A Journey called Life], [Legend of the Demigods]’s old woman, the rebellious girl in [Gem of Life], the stupid but pretty model in [Twilight Investigation], and [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir]’s cool teacher Miss Cool, but the audience still feel that I am a ‘Good Girl’.

Yangcheng Wanbao: In the entertainment industry, isn’t it difficult to be a Jade Girl?

Linda: There were reports saying that I was on bad terms with some of my colleagues, and there were also rumours that were completely untrue. I feel that I am very fortunate, I do not become the subject of such publications very often. I do not feel that it is too difficult to be a‘good good girl’, maybe this could be something to do with my family background. I did not come from a very wealthy family, and my parents taught me from young to be upright, and showered me with love. Having entered the industry, I do not feel that I have turned bad. Other than work, I do not care at all about the other things.

Yangcheng Wanbao: Wouldn’t this innocent personality of yours be really easy to manipulate or bully?

Linda: Actually this personality would result in two possible effects—you are too pure, and become easy to bully, or people could not bear to bully you, and instead be even nicer to you. I am very rarely bullied. Innocence is not equivalent to stupidity, and I think things to be abit more simple than normal, but would try my best to behave professionally in my workplace, and others would have no chance to knock me down.

Yangcheng Wanbao: You have really never had any incidents of suffering grievances?

Linda: Everyone has unhappy experiences, and I had such incidences when I first entered the entertainment circle. During that time, there were many notices, but those that were arranged to start work the earliest and knock off work the latest entirely did not have time to sleep. I was also misunderstood to be “acting stupid” before, and at that time I was really hurt. But these things only happened once or twice, so I am very grateful.

Important Word to Note: Relationships
I am not a ‘small woman’, I am a ‘middle woman’

Yangcheng Wanbao: Your career has taken flight, what about your hopes for relationships?

Linda: I place much emphasis on my relationships, I must be friends with that person for two years before I could consider dating him, and once I start dating him I would already be thinking of marriage. Although I really do want to date, and hope to get married and have children, this cannot be rushed and I think I would leave it to Mother Nature to decide.

Yangcheng Wanbao: Having been in the entertainment circle for so long, you have not had feelings towards anyone?

Linda: I would hide it even if I did have feelings for someone, and I would not tell anyone about these things. When it comes to relationships, I always deal with things in a very low-profiled way.(laughs)

Yangcheng Wanbao: If you date, would you choose to develop the relationship in the ‘underground relationship’ way?

Linda: This is a matter of time, when both parties feel that it is time, the members of the public will know.

Yangcheng Wanbao: In the face of relationships and work, how would you make a decision?

Linda: I have a ‘little woman’ side, but I could not say that I am entirely one, I should be considered a ‘middlewoman’—when I am in my late teens or early twenties, my career definitely comes first, but after that family is important as well. If I meet someone I love very deeply, I would surely choose family.

Yangcheng Wanbao: What is your idea of an ideal better half?

Linda: The most important would be that he is practical, compassionate and good to his family members, and could give me a sense of security. He must be willing to start a family, and cannot be going around with a playboy attitude. As to appearance, this is completely not important, as long as he looks good to me. I will also not consider his wealth.

Reporter’s Impression

Each time there is a promotional event, Linda Chung is not a hot spot for mass interviewing, but each time she definitely gives one the feeling of familiarity and warmth, she will not be false or try to catch media attention, but will answer according to the questions posed to her,and makes people feel good towards her. This telephone interview was done while Linda was attending the Blessing Ceremony for [Yue Fu’s Hidden Dragon], during the break. On the phone, Linda was busy preparing by setting her hair, putting on makeup, but she still seriously and conscientiously answered each and every question. Although her Chinese is not good, she still tried to force out words of Mandarin here and there, and was really cute. As she said herself, naïveté is not equivalent to stupidity, and in this really colourful entertainment circle, maintaining a innocent and pure heart is not easy at all, how could she be a stupid woman?

Innocent Girl vs. Bad Girl

3 years into entering the industry, Linda Chung had the chance to take part in the large-scale production [Heart of Greed]. In the drama, she acted as a “Good Girl”, Sheung Joi Sum, who was loved by many people. She and Raymond Lam acted as partners in the drama, and in the process many rumours were started regarding their relationship.

[A Journey Called Life]
Linda acted as a “Wet Girl in Mongkok” (wayward female youth) Sze Ka-ka, and her character progressed from a bad girl lacking the warmth of family relationships, to a positive one. In the drama, Linda even had fighting and pregnancy scenes, and the filming was quite much of a challenge.

[Legend of the Demigods]
This drama was another of Linda’s breakthroughs, her character as “Ho Choi Mui” (meaning lucky girl) had a great range of ages to act. She had to act as a youth in her late teens to a 70+ year-old woman. Although she sacrificed her image for the production, the character helped Linda to attract many younger fans.

[Twilight Investigation]
Linda acted as a“Pretty Model” Zhong Tak-yi, and had many cute ‘gwing’ facial expressions during the show, and the muddle-headed, silly acting brought great comic relief.

[Yes Sir, Sorry Sir]
Linda acted as a cool-on-the-outside, warm-on-the-inside female teacher Miss Cool (extreme right), and was cheated of her feelings by a police officer (Moses Chan). This character that experienced such a depth of emotional trauma caused many viewers to adopt an approving stance towards Linda, and she finally managed to drop the “vase” image.

Thoughts: Thanks to Bell for the awesome translation! Really enjoyed this article ;) Linda is so modest. It must have been hard for her during the first few years of acting =( Can't imagine how it is to live in a foreign land alone. Glad to know that she've loosen up since then and made friends =)

Crying out a Future
In this issue, Linda Chung has got to be the most popular!

In Yes Sir Sorry Sir, Linda plays the role of Miss Koo, who has a cool and composed outer appearance. Because she exposes the truth of Law Sir cheating on herself, she experienced the biggest setback in her life which resulted in an emotional meltdown, causing viewers to feel sad and sorry for her. This crying scene became the hot topic of the city, and netizens also excitedly buzzed about it, saying that Linda was like a goddess, and her acting skills were comparable to that of TV Queen.

A woman's tears are powerful and strong, and Linda has always been good at crying scenes, such as when playing the character of Sheung Joi Sum in Heart of Greed, Yu So Chau in Moonlight Resonance and so on, when she similarly cried her way to fame. This time, Miss Koo's meltdown started off a grenade-sized hot trend, opposite to Linda's expected response, oother than being grateful for being given the chance to be Miss Koo, she expresses her greatest gratitude to her viewers and their fervent support.

During the interview, Linda specially took photos with the crying face, but this time her cries were not ones of melancholy or despair, but that of gratitude for her loyal audience.

Youtube viewership count was over 200,000
Continuing the trend set by Michael Tse as Laughing Gor, Miss Koo similarly started an upheaval among netizens, and the most-followed video on Youtube showing the meltdown scene attracted many viewers, Linda also called for more fans to watch [Yes Sir] using her tvb blog and on weibo.

tvb.com reputation was #1

Weibo comments exceeded 5,000

Linda expressed that Miss Koo's image was similar to that of Amagai Yuuki's in [Joou no Kyoushitsu], the cool image portrayed by her was likened to that of Miss Koo in the first segment of the series.

Famous Advertisements
When actors are portraying the passive characters, getting a popular character is an indispensable opportunity. Having been in the industry for 7 years, Linda frankly comments that she has been extremely fortunate, getting the role of Sheung Joi Sum in in 2008, and this year being able to act as the Miss Koo who was so well-received by viewers.

"When Producer Kar Ho Gor (Lau Kar Ho) first explained Miss Koo's character to me, I could already picture in my mind how to act out this character. Although I have always given others the feeling that I was the good girl next door, Jade girl, but when I first entered the industry, I tried many ways to fence myself up from others to protect myself, and the situation then was somewhat similar to that of Miss Koo not wanting others to know that her family had ties to triad societies. Miss Koo's personality traits are also somewhat present in my own character, so being given this role could be said to be the perfect match.

When I finished trying out for the character, I felt that this role would be great and well-received, because Miss Koo is very different from the Linda everyone is so familiar with. Initially, I thought there would just be a series of small fireworks, because recently my character as the model in [Twilight Investigation], which I thought was good, was not as widely watched because it was broadcasted over the Christmas vacation. Thus, the fireworks were not as spectacular, and this time although I had confidence in Miss Koo, I did not dare to express it."

Captions:
Linda received a countless number of positive comments online on her good acting skills, and it is not surprising that Linda, who usually takes things in her stride, says that she wants to win an award, because by doing so she would not be letting her fans, supporters, producer and people who helped her down.

Linda previously tried out many characters with tragic stories, above are a few standard crying scenes ([Twilight Investigation], [Legend of the Demigods], [Legend of Pusongling]), how many do you remember?

Miss Koo Trend
Linda predicted that Miss Koo would be well-received by viewers, but discussions regarding Miss Koo on forums, large-scale discussion sites, facebook and weibo far exceeded Linda's expectations.

"I didn't know it would be so spectacular! On the day that Miss Koo had her meltdown, I previously typed out a few words on weibo, and there were actually more than 4,000 fans who left comments, what an exaggeration! I read every single comment, and they felt that I was very pitiful, and did not want to see me so sad. Also, there were fans that said I was very pretty and different, but it was only the makeup, hairstyle and acting style that was different. As an actress, making the viewers unable to recognise you is also a sort of indication of success, and I feel very satisfied.

"Among the comments, I remember distinctively that some comments said that they did not previously take notice of Linda Chung, thinking that she had bad acting skills and only knew how to cry, but after watching this series, they started liking her, and felt that her acting skills have improved drastically. These comments make me feel very touched, because the character actually made others change their opinions about me. Actors are actually very pitiful people, if you click with your role, then you would know how to act it out. If you don't, then you just have to watch for the next script to come along. If the character has room for performance, it still needs to coordination with other actors, producer, makeup artists and hairstylists and so on, so being able to be such a well-received character is such a rare opportunity."

Next Stop, TV Queen
Netizens' power is really strong, Sheren Tang also received the 'TV Awards Ceremony Best Female Actress' award for [Rosy Business] thanks to her netizens' support. Miss Koo also received similar support online, and netizens hope that Miss Koo will become this season's TV Queen even more.

"When I heard that they wanted me to be TV Queen, I was so shocked! Really, I do wish that I could get an award this year, I am very satisfied with this year's results, being a supermodel in [Twilight Investigation] was another Linda, and a stark comparison to Miss Koo, and two different personalities from mine. This year, I was able to get 2 good characters, it could be said that I am quite confident of this year.

"However, when talking about TV Queen, I feel scared, because I still want to progress more, I feel that I have not trained to the extent of being able to control my character, but instead my character controls me, and I feel that I still have much to learn. Furthermore, it is still half a year to the Awards, and many more dramas and characters may display fireworks, if I get the honour of TV Queen I would of course be happy, but I am more confident in 'My Favourite Female TV Character'."

Captions:
Males were enthralled by Miss Koo's hugs of love, Linda said it was all due to Moses' cooperation, to create such a sweet scene, and she also said that the 2 popular favourite characters Sheung Joi Sum and Miss Koo were also filmed alongside Moses, so Moses may be her lucky star. Next time, she would have to look for Moses to be her partner, then she could continue sponging off his luck.

The crying scene seems like a continuous one, but it is actually split into 2 parts, with a break for supper in the middle. Linda displayed exceptional acting skills when she was able to keep the emotions of a meltdown to splice together the 2 parts.

Goddess Back into Position

Linda was chased into being regarded TV Queen, which she declined, but she accepts the nickname of Goddess by netizens because of Miss Koo's personality-- first cool, then later warm.
"Being called a goddess makes me very happy, actually when I was Sheung Joi Sum, someone called me a goddess, but these few years no one has repeated that. This time, being called a goddess brings different feelings, previously fans may have preferred my 'first love' feel, with the slightly youthful feel mixed in, but now they prefer my more ladylike, matured feel."

In another scene, Miss Koo wants Law Sir to give her another hug of love, making Miss Koo the ideal girlfriend for any guy. "Actually Moses' statement, "Another one?!" and hug of love were not in the original script, but because Moses and I have always been natural and comfortable partners in acting, we can add in more physical interaction with each other. Many girls are like that while dating, fierce on the outside but like a little baby when they go home. I am definitely like a little baby, very tender! (Will you have hugs of love) Haha! With anyone, my dad and mum, so I was able to get into the character."

Meltdown in Two Aspects

Miss Koo initially closed herself up, and subsequently was opened up by Law Sir to date in a sweet manner, and then when she realised that Law Sir was only using everything as part of his efforts to crack the case, the truth was exposed and resulted in Miss Koo's meltdown scene, making people feel for her. When filming this scene, her experiences could be likened to that of riding on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

"Because that afternoon, we first had to film the scene where I expose the fact that Law Sir and Miss Ho were going out with each other, then the 2nd scene was when Law Sir proposed to me, then the scene in which I scold Law Sir in the hotel, and then when we were in the bridal shop choosing wedding gowns, and lastly the meltdown scene. I was really nervous, and continuously communicated with the producer, asking him if we could shoot the scene from the corridor into the room in one take, and in the end we could not do so because of the positions of the camera, and needed to first film the portion in the corridor. Unexpectedly, we filmed over the estimated time, and filmed until I was just about to open the door before shouting 'cut', and taking a break for supper. After supper, I was worried that I could not keep myself in the emotional state, so before I filmed the scene where I entered the house, I first screamed three cries of 'go away, go away, go away!' After that, when watching the playbacks, it felt as if everything was taken in one shot, it was so magical. I believe that the script was written well, and the characters were well integrated, and very detailed, so I could get fully immersed in the emotions of Miss Koo, thus performing so naturally.

Captions:
After [Forensic Heroes II], Linda and Bobby Auyeung continued their fated partnership in the drama [Yue Fu's Hidden Dragon]. Linda's character here is similar to that of Miss Koo's, cool and composed but gentle, and she is a noblewoman from a reputable family.

Miss Koo and Kenneth Ma (who acted as Miss Koo's neighbour in the last episode) ended up together in conclusion, Linda thought of letting Miss Koo go crazy because of the extreme trauma suffered, but in reflection, fans would be extremely against that, so they kept to the original plan, and the last episode was aired satisfactorily.

Choosing their Own Endings

Law Sir and Miss Koo had such sweet experiences dating, and many netizens also hoped that they would become a pair in the last episode, or they would boycott the show altogether! Linda conversely held opposing views, "From beginning to end, Law Sir did not ever like Miss Koo, her goddess is Miss Ho, so Law Sir should not be blamed, whatever he did was because of his duties."
In the last episode, Miss Koo and Law Sir did not end up together, in the end Kenneth Ma acting as a neighbour started a new relationship with Miss Koo, and it could be said to be a complete conclusion. Actually Linda, Moses and Kenneth had formerly discussed an alternative ending that they chose.

"Before filming this show, I discussed with Kenneth and Moses, and because my character has not liked anyone for so long, only Law Sir was able to open up my heart, so we though Kenneth should wear something similar to what Moses does to appear in front of me. After further discussion with the producer, he said that that would be too much of a fairytale ending, and we actually just wanted to say that Kenneth could look like Law Sir but really love Miss Koo, I think if this version was to be broadcasted, the effects would actually be pretty hilarious."

A Great Difficulty

After the successful portrayal of Miss Koo, Linda continues filming for [Yue Fu's Hidden Dragon], playing the character of a good dancer, and accepting the biggest challenge of her 7 years since entering the industry.

"At first, when I heard that I was going to film this series, I was very unconfident, because I entirely do not know how to dance, but would try my best to do so. Filming was painstaking, learning the dance and filming it right on the spot, and I even needed to dance like a proper, good dancer. This is very different from filming fighting scenes, where there are camera angle tricks, substitutes, and martial art experts to help me, but dancing just counts of pure foundational skills, and you cannot depend on observing the people next to you, or watching movies to imitate the character.

"Additionally, I have always been wary of fainting spells, even when sitting on Ferris Wheels that rotate so slowly, I will feel so dizzy that I cry for help, so this time performing pirouettes and spins when dancing is very difficult. A few days ago, I filmed a scene with dancing in it, and I only spun 2 or 3 times, then had to stop and say a few lines to Myolie, and although I looked okay in front of the cameras, I was looking at Myolie who was rocking back and forth in front of me, I felt really giddy. Although I was not born with the ability to deal with this, I will overcome this obstacle with hard work; I feel this series would be the biggest challenge for me."

[News] Rejecting Raymond Lam, Giving Up Rising New Star, Linda Chung And "new Boyfriend" From Stanley Get Caught Having This Relationship

Linda Chung, who has always attracted numerous male artistes, previously rejected playboy Raymond Lam and "lady killer" Ron Ng’s good intentions, and decided to invest her love in herself, and no other.

Linda has always maintained an innocent and young image, and on the 10th of May, she was found to have dumped rumoured boyfriend Philip Ng, going out with a "new boyfriend" (Mr. Cheung) to the best place for a date—Stanley. Unexpectedly, they were caught red-handed, and shocked until they could not even eat their meal, and ran off quickly. It is known that Linda’s "new boyfriend" whose appearance makes him look like an upmarked version of Mark Lui, is about 30 years old this year, and comes from quite a decent family. His parents have a property worth about HKD$20,000,000 in Shatin, and the 2 of them already knew each other since studying in Canada, but only officially started dating 2 months ago.

Upon being chased by reporters looking totake pictures, Linda and her boyfriend immediately turn their heads, avoiding the cameras.

Recently there was a crying scene in [Yes Sir,Sorry Sir] that once again caused the drama to increase rapidly inpopularity points, and Linda Chung, who is seen as this year’s new TV Queen, recently started a new relationship. In early May this year, before Yue Fu’sHidden Dragon filming began, she took the opportunity to meet her secret "new boyfriend". On the 10th of May extended holiday, about 6.30pm, she purposely wore low-key looking attire, and wore little makeup, a black cap, black thick-rimmed glasses, a T-shirt and a black backpack like a common civilian, having 0 celebrity style, and would be difficult to point her out as the TV Queen. Making herself look completely different from normal, she took action extremely carefully, and when she left her flat in Tseung Kwan O, and walked to the bus interchange where her "boyfriend" was waiting in a private car in the drop-off point, she was on high alert the whole time, looking left and right from time to time, until she got onto her "boyfriend’s" Audi car and set off, and then she was on even higher alert to check if anyone suspicious around her got into their cars first (reporters).

Getting into the car suspiciously. Leaving her flat in Tseung Kwan O, Linda looks around vigilantly, toensure that no reporters got into their cars first before going into herboyfriend’s car. Having good eyesight, seeing reporters. Once she realised that reporters were taking pictures, Linda immediately got into the car again, and called for her boyfriend to escape quickly.

Helping to avoid the camera. In order to prevent her boyfriend from being caught in pictures,Linda helped to lower the shades, thinking that this way, the reporters would not be able to take their pictures.

Spectacular Stanley
Along the way, Linda kept chatting incessantly with her "boyfriend", until the couple got to the place where many couples favoured going to date. They entered Stanley Plaza parking lot, deliberately parking the car at the level with the least cars, thinking that everything was planned and would be carried out without a hitch, then got off together. However, when they were preparing to walk to the restaurant together, the sharp-eyed Linda suddenly realized that reporters were around taking pictures. In the chaos, Linda immediately signalled to her "boyfriend", then sped back into the car, and her "boyfriend" cleverly drove away speedily as well. Then, they sped past many red lights in order to get rid of the reporters and in the process reporters got off their cars to take pictures. Linda and her "boyfriend" immediately turned their heads, avoiding the cameras. When Linda pulled down the shades for her "boyfriend" to avoid the cameras, seeing that reporters continued taking pictures, Linda changed her mind, appearing as ‘TV Queen”,changing from initial Miss Cool to a smiling, welcoming Linda. Failing to get rid of the reporters, Linda got her "boyfriend" to let her get off the car at Aberdeen, trying to divert attention away from him. When asked if she was really going out with her "boyfriend", Linda replied with well-practised ease,“No, we are just friends! We intended to eat a meal together, but now we can’t!” Linda and her "boyfriend", not even daring to eat dinner together, parted ways at last; Linda took a cab back to her flat in Tseung Kwan O, and her "boyfriend" drove back to his mid-level apartment in West Lyttelton Road in Hong Kong Island.

Change of face to one of TV Queen. Seeing that reporters were taking pictures, Linda Chung could only change tactics, smiling and facing the cameras, displaying good acting skills indeed!

Splitting up to run away. Being unable to shake off reporters, Linda had no choice but to get off the car first, diverting attention away from reporters, letting her boyfriend leave the place first, going back to his apartment in the Western Mid-Levels.

Boyfriend has a good family background
After understanding more about him, it is found that Linda’s boyfriend that looks like a more upmarket version of Mark Lui comes from a well-to-do family, and his parents enjoy buying and selling property in Shatin area. Their investments mostly earn money, and he drives an Audi TT. The two of them kneweach other from University in Canada, and met each other again in the beginningof this year. He then pursued Linda relentlessly, and finally officiallystarted dating two months ago. In April this year, the present of a branded watch Linda exposed to be from someone of the opposite sex was from this verynew boyfriend.

Philip Ng, being in the entertainment industry for many years, is responsiblefor many dozens of actors and actresses.

Recently Raymond Lam was afraid that the Pan Shuang Shuang fiasco might happen again, so he sent an SMS to Linda Chung to warn her.

Getting rid of small star
As to going out with ‘Upmarket version of Mark Lui’, it could be said that it was purely coincidence. In the beginning of this year, Linda ended her relationship with Philip Ng after 3 years of undercover dating. Although in the past few years, Linda has always been the target of a group of siu sangs, including RaymondLam, Ron Ng and Lai Lok Yi trying to get her attention one after another, but she held Philip Ng tightly and refused to let go, and only let ‘Upmarket Version of Mark Lui’ have a chance when she was finished with her old flame.Someone close to Linda said “TVB never saw any good coming out of Linda going out with Philip, and they felt that there was too much standing in between the two of them. Together with Linda rejecting Raymond the last time, causing Raymond to lose face, so Miss Lok (Lok Yee Ling) also does not like Linda being too high-profile with a small star, being afraid that the other party may damage Linda’s image. When Linda’s 3-year-long relationship waned, she wanted to get up the ranks again, and wanted the company to give her a chance, she needed to be obedient and eventually broke up with Philip Ng!”

On Tuesday, she attended a function for Slim Beauty, and denied dating, emphasising the fact that she was only having a meal with a normal friend.

Linda attracted many siu sangs (male artistes) in the industry; Raymond and Ron both tried pursuing her before.

Because she dated Philip Ng, many high-ranking people in the company were dissatisfied.

Linda Chung, who loves cooking, often went to the market to buy ingredients to personally cook and boil soup for her boyfriend, and put the picture of the soup on weibo.

Premium Fadan
Linda Chung, 27 years old, having fewer experiences of dating than other female artistes, has an appearance more innocent and purer than distilled water and was always the entertainment industry’s male’s “Good Food”, apart from Philip Ng, it is rumoured that Raymond Lam and Ron Ng also fell out because they were fighting over her.

Having a pure and innocent outward appearance, but a great body figure,Linda is a “Gordon” female artiste and a goddess in the eyes of many small actors.

In [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir], her crying scene shook the entire city, and Linda was proclaimed ‘TV Queen’ and popular favourite.

In 2007, Philip Ng and Linda filmed [Love is Not All Around] together, they got together in secret, and put pictures of them on their blogsto show people how loving they were together.

Raymond and Linda were lovers in [Heart of Greed], and it was rumoured that the two of them were acting out their real situation. In order to pursue Linda, Raymond sent many SMSes to her, and drove her around, picking her up from work in his Benz.

When Ron Ng filmed [Yes Sir, Sorry Sir] with Linda last year, it was rumoured that Ron Ng pried hard at Linda, and the 2 of them were caught having a good time together at Kowloon City Grill, and were taking pictures together in an intimate manner.

Someone Interfered
Linda, having a good and innocent image, never officially made known tothe public that she was dating, setting her apart from fadans of the same generation, e.g., Bernice Liu, Fala Chen, Myolie Wu ad Tavia Yeung, who are all attached and labelled by the men.

Thoughts: I dunno what to say....the reporters have a really big imagination :P Since the big rise of Miss Koo, I guess the reporters just really needed some news, so they kinda dug everything up and pieced it into this.
