[Magazine] Jessica Code No.126 - Translation

Innocent, busy, polite, and well behaved; the words a lot of girls definitely want to be attributed to.
Linda Chung has been in the industry for 9 years now and this image has not faded. In response to the above and the public's image of her, Linda says she want “to be cruder”. For example when she played the character, Miss Koo, she exceeded many people’s expectations.

True Personality Mistaken

"Maybe it's because of my religion, where certain behaviours are very conservative. In fact, I am not as calm as I am on the outside. I am like how an Aries is depicted; very playful, always rushing, don't really think planning the next steps and often bump into walls. People who are close to me know that I am playful, speak very fast and act quite rough." Linda talks about how her image has been molded; doesn't speak very fast and acting rough are rarely seen, only her frank nature remains. "I don't want to say that I am gentle because it will limit my acting area. That is why I really want to act in an evil role and surprise the audience." Regularly receiving gentle or fragile roles, she does not feel fulfilled: "People feel that I'm too gentle to take on challenging roles, therefore it makes me feel even more determined to prove that I can take on a variety of roles. I am always hoping that I can act in a mentally handicapped role; not the kind in comedy series. I used to volunteer with people who have mental disabilities back in Vancouver, and it was a very memorable experience. That is why I hope to one day, use that experience to incorporate it into my acting."

Ups and Downs in the Entertainment World

Winning the beauty pageant, smoothly stepping into TVB to be an actress and successfully debuted as a singer, Linda Chung's career seems great. To add onto that, she barely have any negative news and possesses a pure image, making her entirely 'safe'. "To be honest, I am very lucky. My career path has been very peaceful without much problem or big 'storms'. Entering the industry I did not know anything but luckily on the set of my first drama, "Virtues of Harmony 2", there were a lot of veterans who helped me out." When she first entered the industry, there some differences (in the cultures) that caused her to be unhappy: "People often teased (joked with) me and I would think that they really meant what they said. But actually, people in Hong Kong like to do that a lot. Even with friends they may not be close to, they can keep on talking. At first I was unhappy. My EQ is not high but after entering the industry, I've trained to become stronger." Linda used to film one series after another until she became sick: "That time I filmed both "The Gem of Life" and "A Journey Called Life" at the same time. This weakened my immune system and countered side effects from the medicine. My health eventually got worse, causing my whole body to itch (rashes), and it took me half a year to recover. But at that time, I would wake up every morning to go to work. In order to cover my rashes, I’d still wear thick clothing during the summer time. All I can depend on was my determination!" On the outside, she seems so cheerful but is strong in the inside. She will not show her weak face in front of others.

A Lucky Path in the Industry

Linda Chung is not like normal people: "I do not like to think much. Whenever a chance comes by, I would just grab onto it. An example would be recording a CD. I never thought of it nor talked to my company about it. But when a recording company asked me to try out my voice, I thought why not? Given the chance, why not treasure it? It is all because of fate that I ended up as a singer. I didn't know what to prepare and really haven't plan what to do with my life." And this is how she entered the industry (singing). "My singing teacher told me; "Linda, take things step by step to build a good foundation." Some people become popular right when they first start off but I know I am not a part of that. I understand that many things can go wrong in the industry and so all those things that you're worked for can easily disappear. Have to grab onto the chances, step by step, and continue to work harder to get better results." Starting out from a beauty pageant and venturing out into Hong Kong all by herself, Linda is often referred to by the public as an obedient girl, but underneath she is a strong and determined individual. She is no longer the little girl from ten years ago, when she entered the industry. "Linda BB" has now grown to be a strong and independent woman.

Dismissing the Title of Being Frugal

Linda Chung is known to be a frugal girl in the industry but that was all an assumption. She says, "Back then an interview stated that I only spend 20 dollars (HK) on a daily basis, which they probably have counted wrong. I also don't have a habit of driving and so therefore, led to the assumption that I am frugal. Actually I am the type that spends money whenever I feel like it, such as shopping! I love to buy shoes and purses, and even when there's little time to go shopping, online shopping becomes quite convenient!" Talking about shopping, it was what all women have in common and Linda Chung is no different.

Linda Chung: “Why is it that I’m the only one without any awards?”

I’ve always had the impression that Linda Chung was one of the different ones in TVB, in terms of her background, while her qualifications are on par with the rest of the fadans. In the past 8 years that she’s been in the industry, there have been few news articles of her getting chummy with the bosses at dinner parties before the annual TVB awards ceremony. She really has a personality that stands aloof from worldly affairs – but I guess even goddesses yearn for others’ praises too right!?

Last year, with 4 dramas at hand, she ought to have had all the power and popularity. But in the end, she lost the TV Queen title to Tavia Yeung, and the Popularity award to Kate Tsui. In the JSG Awards, only one of her songs was given a small award. As a “biological daughter” (of TVB), how do you feel about it?

“Very disappointed! Why is it that I’m the only one without any awards? Am I really that worthless?” Linda sounded discouraged as she lamented about the results.

I told her, why not learn from former rumoured boyfriend Raymond Lam and keep your attitude up because not all is lost!

“I don’t see any purpose in kicking up a fuss.”

With her power to not give in to setbacks, nor being a yes-man, even I, not to mention all the men, am completely charmed by her!

Am I really that worthless?
“Biological daughter” Linda Chung has only won one award from her company – The Most Improved Actress award.

“Those girls who started out with me have already won “My Favorite Actress” awards – I’m the only one who hasn’t. I don’t know why?!”

I really feel that it’s so unfair for her to have put in so much effort in her work all these years, obeying orders meekly, and yet not yield any results!

When she mentioned those who had started out in the industry with her, she was referring to Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen, Kate Tsui, Myolie Wu and Charmaine Sheh. Charmaine has long been propelled to the top, and it remains a struggle for the remaining 5.

“I am a passive person, and fear being eliminated. I always ask myself, am I not pushing for it hard enough? Am I incapable? I’m afraid I’m not doing enough.”

How can it not be enough? Having accumulated accolades little by little for the past few years, naturally she would have amassed a lot by now. Earlier, she bought a house in Canada. With money, one’s reputation will definitely go up. In 2011, she initially stood a very high chance.

“Yes Sir Sorry Sir had a very good response, and the reporters and directors were all saying that the TV Queen title was surely mine! But who knew, on the awards day, the emcee didn’t even mention my name at all! I was thinking, why is it so weird?” And true enough, all was lost.

“I was very disappointed! I kept asking myself, what exactly did I do wrong? Am I really that inadequate (in acting)?” Quietly, she revealed what was in her heart.

There have been rumours that Linda was tricked by her company into signing a very long contract, and since they had a contractual hold over her, she was obliged to work without asking for any awards. “It’s not very long; it’ll end when I’m 33 years old.” Despite being disappointed, she still supports her company and insists that they treat her well. “When the company trains an artiste, it isn’t something that is done within a few years. Ah Yee (Tavia) worked for 14 years before winning the TV Queen title; and Myolie, for 12 years. I’ve only been in the industry for 8 years – how can I even compare? Having a path that is too smooth will spoil a person. My life is such! When I was running for pageant, not many people noticed me. At the end, I don’t know why I suddenly got famous. I sincerely am proud of Ms. Lok, after all, there aren’t that many people who can truly understand their artistes.”

Finally learnt to let go

Fame and fortune are the most realistic dreams, but as one grows older, one becomes more mature in one’s thoughts. There will be changes in one’s values, and in the recent years, Linda has slowly learnt to let go.

Four years ago, after enduring three months of insomnia, her stress levels were sky-high. “Before I entered the industry, I was a very simple girl. My friends in Vancouver told me that I had to stop being a “little girl” once I went over to Hong Kong to live, if not, I would definitely get bullied. The entertainment industry is one big pot of dye – I had to protect myself (from getting “dyed”), and had to behave like an adult every day.”

"Initially, when I had to appear for functions and face the media, I gave very “official” and politically correct answers, in fear of being laughed at as being “stupid”. When I started acting in dramas, I didn’t understand the script. I was scared of people laughing at me, so every night I would use my webcam or call my friends to ask for help. My dad, who was so far away, would read each individual word in my script and teach me the tones from scratch. The Legend of the Demigods was my first leading role and I could not screw up. I would force myself to eliminate my “slang” in my speech, and had to train myself to cry or laugh on cue. In the middle of filming the series, I lost control and started wailing. From that incident, I learnt that it was extremely painful to intentionally force myself this way."

Another incident that made her want to change her way of thinking was when she read of a case in the newspapers, where a stepfather hacked his stepdaughter and threw her into the sea. “That girl was really good in her studies, but little did we know that she had such a complicated background. This whole incident really shook and woke me up.”

“After I entered the industry, all I was busy with was earning money and I only cared if I was pretty or not. Actually, life is so fragile. I finally learnt to let go and just live a happy life instead of magnifying every little problem.”

Now, after working so hard, she takes a break every year in April and goes back to Canada to rest and recharge. At the same time, she visits her family and spends time with them. During this time, her mood naturally improves too.

Linda’s tips
Q: You’re always filming overnight – how do you take care of your skin?
A: I take Chinese medicine: by mixing Ginseng, Cordyceps powder and water. It works pretty well.

Q: Where’s your favorite place to go clothes shopping?
A: Online. I frequently go to zipia.com and asos.com – I don’t have to be afraid of wearing matching clothes with anybody else. The scariest time was once when I just bought and bought, and soon I had amassed a bill of 30,000 HKD!

From the time she entered the industry till now, with so much stress and no awards, and putting in so much for so many years, how could she have not thought of throwing in the towel? How could she not have thought of acting on the impulse?

Especially when Linda describes herself, ”I am a person who solves my problems based on my mood.” Is this someone with a low EQ? Doesn’t seem so! So how? “When I encounter anything, even if it’s merely being afraid or unhappy, I really need someone who knows how to help me to analyze the situation and teach me how to rationally solve the problem with my head, not my heart.”

“In these years, I’ve met this person and he truly is a very good listener.”

After being so straightforward, surely she isn’t forcing me to say Philip Ng’s name out loud, is she? The moment she heard his name, she sweetly said, “I’m very easy to please. Just cook me a meal when you’re free – that’ll do.”

“The most romantic time was when that person cooked a full meal for me from scratch – from the main dish, to drinks, fruits and dessert, single-handedly. Plus, it was my favorite ketchup spaghetti.”

“In this industry, there are many sacrifices to be made and artistes have very little time to invest into a relationship. I just need a very simple relationship, just like Kelly Chen, where she is successful in her career but also has a healthy romantic relationship. One can never finish earning money – once I attain success in my career, naturally I will spend more time concentrating on setting up my family.” Career success – possibly means winning an award! If, going accordingly to the fact that her contract will end when she’s 33 years old, the closer her contract is to expiring, the greater her ability to win an award will be. So logically speaking, Mr Ng will have to wait another two years or so.

Epilogue
Earlier, the name “Linda BB” just started appearing for no reason and I thought this had to be due to the many male fans she has.

Today, the lady in question has seriously and clearly explained that “the name Linda BB emerged from an Apple Daily report. At that time, I really felt like puking when I heard that name!” But after seeing that this mushy nickname brought her many fans, and people’s recognition of her increased, it made her feel better.

Are you afraid of being typecast as a goodie-two-shoes?

“As an artiste, one must be amiable. On the day where I play an antagonist or a handicapped person and people still calls me “BB”, that’s when it shows that I’m ready to obtain the TV Queen award!”

I never thought that, to Linda Chung, awards are such a great burden.

[Magazine] Linda putting on Cinderella’s glass slipper

Linda Chung joined the entertainment industry after winning 2004's Miss Chinese International Pageant and by projecting a pure and girl-next-door image, she had gain a stable position within the tv, movie and singing industry. With a keen interest in fashion and footwear design, she was recently announced as a creative director and ambassador for the brand Ame Group Limited. Linda says a nice pair of shoes can elevate one's aesthetic appearance and self-confidence, an analogy similar to putting on Cinderella's glass slipper and transforming into a princess as if by magic.

In fact, as a former beauty pageant why is Linda not like Cinderella? The truth is that a nice pair of shoes gives her a spiritual lift. After all, a beautiful women without self-confidence is like the outer appearance of a doll (superficial), in contrast to Linda whose smile exudes from the heart.

Linda’s extremely popular at the moment, making appearances on tv, function events and on the radio with her songs being broadcast.  It seems like she is everywhere.

Linda says, "Have been busy lately from promoting the drama series "Missing you", shooting a new drama series, releasing a new album, attending large/small public events and of course participating in Ame's publicity events. Although it has been a very busy year for me, it has been a fruitful one and I'm very happy!"

Being busy in the entertainment industry is a good thing, however if there's little time to rest, isn't it tiring?

L: "As an artist, you cannot control many things. You must take advantage of many opportunities that come up in life. Being busy is better than being free, resting only during the allocated time to re-energize."

(In fact being involved in a job that you like is a blessing. Most jobs involves some sort of pressure?)

L: "Yes. Entering this industry, I understand that this job involves being busy.

--Love is greater than life--
With a busy schedule and no time to rest, is there also not enough time to talk or pursue romance/love?

Linda is already 28 years old, not exactly old but she's not so young either. The thought of never being in love feels like it’s missing something. Moreover in life, one's life should not just be about work.

L: “In a person’s life, love is the most important thing. Entering the industry, everyone assumed I was the kind of girl who thought love was greater than life. But then after seeing me so focused with work, they misunderstood me for being a very career-minded woman. To be honest love occupies a very important position, even on par with my career because I strongly believe in family concepts and values. One day I hope to start my own family and have children.

---My happiness rating is 80% ---
If you want to be happy, you need be learn how to be content and Linda is the best at this.

L: “Yes, if you want to know my happiness score, it is 80%. I really shouldn't be unhappy but there are many ups and downs in life. That is why I will never give myself 100% because I am just flesh and blood."

Linda's simple method to happiness is learning how to be grateful.

---Beauty comes from self-confidence---

L: "Every night before going to bed, I will say my thanks for that day. For example: being thankful for eating the delicious pizza, thankful for not saying anything I should not have said during an interview, etc. I tell myself everyday of the things to be thankful for, always reminding myself that I am blessed with happiness."

We all know that Linda's career originated from winning the beauty pageant and with the confidence to set foot on the pageant stage, her own beauty is a result of self-confidence?

L: "In my opinion, beauty comes from self-confidence. As long as one feels beautiful, that confidence will naturally reveal their beautiful side."

Although confidence accounts as part of beauty, in addition, can certain dress styles highlight an individuals' elegance?

L: "I'm an individual who doesn't like to follow trends since it’s not the thing I'm most concerned with. I’m more concerned with whether the dress feels uncomfortable; if it’s not comfortable how you will radiate the beauty. So I believe beauty comes from being natural and comfortable, coming from the heart with confidence.
Talking of beauty Linda has other tips, especially with makeup, which can enhance natural beauty.

L: "I think a pair of piercing eyes is the most important factor. So every day when washing my face, I will also massage my eyes. Possibly a psychological impact, I always feel that massaging the eyes reduces the swollenness.”

"As for makeup, I do not like thick black eyeliner. Although girls love using heavy eyeliner, I only use eyeliner on the inside so the look will be more natural. The color can also be lighter because this gives people the feeling of cleanliness.

---Not a HK girl---
The editor (of this magazine) does not usually sing praises of her interviewees but this time appreciates Linda. Somebody who is similar to HK women but without the temperament, this feeling left the editor with a question– since entering the industry, what’s the happiest thing?

L: "I remember after being in the industry for four years, I was still very anti-social. Every day I would only know how to shoot drama series and not communicate with the outside world. Finally because of a flu, my whole body was affected from taking the wrong medicine. At that moment I began to pity my self and wondered why I have to be so miserable?”

According to Linda, she took the wrong medicine because she had to shoot two sets of drama series and a movie over the same period of time. So when she fell sick but did not dare to take a sick leave, she consumed her friend's medicine as a substitute. Eventually it ended up in that situation, not understanding why it happened? Linda thinks this is the happiest thing?

L: "As a result, not looking after myself led to my parents getting worried. They slowly saw me change from a happy girl into frowning and concerning individual. I didn’t want to tell them my problems and became more even more isolated... but now I have learned to enjoy happiness at work and how to assure Mom and Dad. So that is the happiest thing since entering the industry, not just winning awards as it is only superficial."

L: “Two days ago I remember I had a toothache which alerted everyone. My dad was afraid I would not eat well so personally ordered and delivered takeaway food to my house. My sister-in-law, whose living with me, then worried that I won't be able to eat it so she cut the food into small pieces for me. Friends on Facebook and weibo also helped with useful advises on toothache.

I pitied Linda when she was afraid to speak up about her sickness because she didn't want to slow down the filming progress.

Thoughts:  My favourite part of this article is, "Linda's simple method to happiness is learning how to be grateful."

Growing up in an environment where I'm fortunate enough to have things handed to me, everything seems like "rights" instead of being what they are, as "privileges".  The rights and privileges, I am referring them in the context of a relationship between a child and their parents.  It's my privilege to receive this laptop from my parents, not a right.  Just like how everyone of us who owns a phone as a gift from our parents, is once again a privilege.  I don't believe that parents are "entitled" to give their children gifts, simply because they want it (ie. the new iphones!!!  which are coming out like crazy...new one every year?).  Getting to the point, we should be grateful for what we have.  I admit I do complain alot and such (my excuse?  i'm a teenager?  lols a very bad excuse!), but I do try to keep in mind to appreciate what I have.  Like what Linda said, learn how to be grateful....because I know that I am much more fortunate than most of the kids out there.

Linda's method is something I will be using from now on.  haha will be tweeting everyday for what I am grateful for!  It's a good way to remind myself to be happy :)

OH  Have you guys noticed that Linda's recent weibo posts have been consisting of  "text.....and this is the happiest thing of the day."  I wonder if this is a part of Linda's method  :)

[Magazine] Linda Chung & Jason Chan - Happiness Left and Right

Related post: the Magazine Scans

In the new series Missing You, the concept of tracing services is conveyed through the organization "See Ming Seh" and the cases that come along with it. Separated families reuniting may be something that could never happen, happiness is not inevitable.

Turns Out There's Fate

In the past, Linda Chung had Steven Ma, Moses Chan (and Raymond Lam) as her popular on-screen partners. It wasn't until last year, she started working with other actors and created new sparks. Following Witness Insecurity's fate with Bosco Wong, this time she collaborates with a new partner, Jason Chan in new series Missing You. The series revolves around the concept of tracing services, the two are partners working in the tracing service organization "See Ming Seh" and eventually develop a relationship.

Although this is their first collaboration, the two quickly developed chemistry since Jason grew up in England and Linda grew up in Canada, so the two are considered 'westernized'. Jason said: "Perhaps we both grew up overseas, so we have common topics and easily developed chemistry." It turns out this isn't Jason and Linda's first collaboration because shortly after their debuts, Linda already had roles with slightly more screen time, Jason laughed and said that time, he just graduated from the TVB Artistes Training Class and didn't turn down any role. He started off as an Extra standing behind Linda. Linda said: "If Jason didn't take out the photo, I wouldn't be able to remember that he was in Heavenly In-Laws. Perhaps that time, he had on a fake mustache, but now mentioning this again, I find it funny."

At first Jason concentrated more on hosting, and so he's considered inexperienced in acting. This is his first series in which he played the leading role. Facing this new partner, Linda praised he's willing to learn and listen. "In terms of a newcomer, Jason really works hard and is willing to learn. Also, he isn't afraid to ask, so he improves faster than others." Jason said he's still a newcomer, and must continue to learn. "As a newcomer, there are many things I need to absorb and be willing to listen. If you are willing to share, I am willing to listen. As the director said, I try my best to absorb and digest all of the pointers my colleagues give me because we all want the series to do well."

After filming series for several years, Linda is still seeking new breakthroughs, challenges and genres. First time coming into contact with the refreshing theme of a tracing services, Linda said: "Because there is a lot to learn in tracing services, TVB made arrangements for us to interview the HK Red Cross Tracing Service team prior to filming. There were only 2-4 people working in that department, which is the same as 'See Ming Seh' from the series. They explained to us the mechanism, operations and methods of tracing. They even told us about special cases. I remember one case was about someone who was a clone, and hoped to find his father. We couldn't believe there was such case that exist. After hearing about these real cases, I felt very emotional because it was all about separated families. Imagining this happening to myself, if I lost my brother and sister, I would want to find them no matter what it takes. If it takes me 40 years to do it, that feeling is really indescribable."

Observing on the Side

Linda was touched by all the cases from the series. She hopes the audience will be able to understand more about tracing services through this series and she's grateful for the group of senior-level guest stars that participated in each of the cases. They did all their homework and their acting made the cases even more touching. "I like this series because I can be an observer. Each day, I watch my seniors do the acting and I'm the one feeling their problem, its better than me telling my story. So, I'm really grateful of all the senior-level artists and all the other guest stars, who played the younger versions. Without their participation in this series, our cases wouldn't be successful. This time, there are a lot of seniors, such as Lau Kong, Ngok Wah, Law Lan and Law Lok Lam, etc. I learned a lot from them. I'm paired up with Jason in this series, I love our story. Listening to their stories and watching their acting skills, I have even more motivation to make this series really good."

Can't Care Too Much

About her relationship with Jason's role, Linda said: "In the series, it was my first time being a social worker. He's the See Hing (big bro) with lots of experience. Since my character is rather pessimistic, many times I think of the negative side of things. He has like a sunshine personality, he's optimistic and helped me learn to relax and slowly I started having feelings for him. Unfortunately, he already had a really good girlfriend (Lin Xiawei), so I could just keep my feelings inside."

One of the concerns is the TV ratings for this series, Linda said: "Many people say the ratings are very low during the Christmas and New Year holidays, but I feel there is a need for series to come out no matter what time of year it is. Also, we can now re-watch the episodes online, so we shouldn't care too much [about ratings]. The most important is the series can be broadcast, so everyone can get to know the concept and service."

Love Confession on the Street

Jason plays the super attentive "See Yik Him", but he isn't aware of his true feelings. He fell in love with Yu Fung (Linda) without knowing it. It wasn't until Yu Fung decided to leave Hong Kong and go to Australia to study with her brother and the separation with his girlfriend, that he realized he developed feelings for Yu Fung over time. To win Yu Fung back, there was one scene about Yik Him on the busy Mong Kok street confessing his love for Yu Fung. Jason said a lot of things were hard to control because of the busy street, so it made filming even more difficult. "I have never filmed such a large-scale scene before. The directors and crew had to help with the filming process. Before the cameras rolled, I was worried there would be too many people and interrupt filming, but when the cameras rolled, I didn't care about anything and just started looking for Linda hysterically on the streets. The situation at the time actually helped me get into character."

Advice from Seniors

In one case, the story is about Yik Him tracing for his family. As the case was directly related to his own character, Jason frankly expressed he spent a lot of time and effort into his performance for this case. He said: "I really like watching the emotional and the quarrel scenes from my senior-level colleagues. However, I also liked the case about my character. First, by that time I had already been filming for a period of time and it was easier for me to get into character. Secondly, the case was very touching and helped me put myself into the story. It was like I put my character into a higher level. Many thanks to my colleagues and seniors from this series, whom had led me into character."

Jason also wanted to especially thank TV King Wayne Lai, he said: "Although Wayne isn't in this series, I saw him during our breaks and chatted with him. He would tell me some of his acting experiences and that its rare to get encouragement and pointers from others. So, I'm really excited to be able to work with both Ah Mo (Moses Chan) and Wayne in new series Transfer of Love Firm."

[Magazine] Linda Chung Like Guys Who Can Cook

With little cooking experience, Linda Chung will be sharing her experiences of when she first cooked for her boyfriend with Mak Ling Ling (麦玲玲) and Michael. During this, Linda revealed that she like guys who can cook. So if there are any guys out there who're wishing to pursue Linda, remember that!

L: Mak Ling Ling
M: Michael
C: Linda Chung

M:   It is such a nerve-wrecking day because I'm dining with goddess, Linda.  Have to be extra attentive to the girl known to everyone as "Linda BB"!

L:  Honestly, where did that name come from?

C:  It came from a reporter's article, "Linda BB please don't cry!", referring to the scene where I found out that Moses Chan's character cheated on me in Yes Sir Sorry Sir.  Starting from then, people have been calling me by this nickname.  Calling me by BB?!  I am grown up already and so I was not very use to it at first.  But after awhile...the name began to feel close.  Even my parents who use to call me "baby girl" (because I am the youngest), now calls me BB!

L:  Your parents calls you that?  So you're the baby girl.  Don't often cook?

C:  I can cook a few simple soup because living alone in Hong Kong, they're especially important to me to have after working for long hours and eating unhealthy food.  When I was young, I often helped my mom prepare the food to cook but when she started cooking, she'd tell me to go do my homework.  That is why I never paid too much attention to cooking.  But I really want to learn how to because everybody around me can.

L:  Have you ever cooked for your boyfriend?

C:  Yes.  I baked a cake for my boyfriend when I was at 18 because I wanted to surprise him.  Unfortunately it failed.  Tasted very bad!  I have also prepared a gathering meal.  For that I made soup, bought a roasted chicken from the shop, stir fried some vegetables and even steamed a fish, which I overcooked.  Then I also bought a cake.  Out of the 5 dishes, only 2 were good.  That is why I really want to learn how to cook.  Need to make some good looking dishes.

L:  You just haven't try with all your potential yet!  What dish do you want to make the most?

C:  I want to learn how to cook Chinese dishes.  One time a friend of mine cooked for 6 people.  The table was full of food!  Very cool!  Really admirable!  I like guys who can cook.  Any guy who can cook, I'll give him more points!

L:  Learning to cook is very time consuming and you're so busy.  Just preparing 3 meals for yourself per day is already not easy!

C:  That is true.  Filming already takes up alot of time so I also want to go out and eat more.  At tvb though, there's only the cafeteria.  Then there are times when I go out to eat with the others but I'd feel very out because they'd talk about which year the wine is or how the dish is suppose to be eaten...I would not have any idea.  That is why alot of people feel comfortable eating with me.  I can eat anything.

M:  Doing many interviews with alot of female artistes, all of them love to eat very much.  They eat alot but at the same time remains fit.  It is just so unexpected.

C:  Usually the thinner they are the more they eat!  I often forget to eat while working but whenever there's a break, I'd eat non-stop.  I like to eat steak, starchy foods and cheese....Before going to sleep, I have to eat or else I'll feel uncomfortable.

L:  Eating before sleeping?  You mean snacks?  Junk food is is my greatest enemy.  Even when I'm trying to loose weight, I'd have to eat chips to make me feel at ease.

C:  Not necessarily snacks because I eat everything.  For example cheesecake, chocolate, dumplings, fried rice, stir fried beef and cereal.   Also, I would drink milk and eat chocolate cake every night.  If there is no milk in the fridge, I'd get very scared.

M:  You eat so much but don't gain weight?

C:  Actually my body's inherited from my parents, who're thin but have a belly.  That is why I have to a bit more careful because I noticed that I'm starting to have a belly too.

L:  It's understandable since you've got so much pressure with work.  Eating is way for consolation.

C:  That's right.  It's hard to eat a proper meal when filming.  So when there's more time, would take advantage of it and go to my favourite restaurant.  That is already so great.

L:  Which restaurant is your favourite?

C:  The majority of the restaurants I go to either gives me the feeling of being in Canada or just simply for convenience.  As long as the food is not bad then it's ok.  For example there's Dan Ryan's that I'd often go to with my close friends or the Japanese restaurant, Takka, in Sai Kung.  There's also the steak restaurant in Kowloon.  I really like the burger there!  Really like beef!

Linda Chung honestly said that her cooking skills are only average and are just "basic living skills" because back in school at Vancouver, her teacher mainly taught her how to make sweet dishes. For the last few years, she've only cooked a fish dish around 3 times because when she's cleaning a fish and looking at it die, she'd get scared and say, "Don't come over here!" It is absolutely hilarious!

On a typical day Linda Chung likes to drink juice, especially strawberry juice. She explained that the doctors says it's very good for women! Besides that, she also drinks apple juice with honey, which is good for the voice. Then when it comes to maintaining good health, Linda recommends chia seeds. She would drink it with water 2-3 times a week because it's good for digestion, skin and spirit.

Linda Chung is sensitive (somewhat allergic) to shellfish like shrimp and crabs but in order to eat the food, she did not care. Back then, her whole body would get rashes from eating them but now it only happens to some area. That is why she could care less and is even eating them more frequently than before.

Thoughts:  Translation is fun but terribly time consuming :P  So kudos to our translators!

Haha I felt more at ease while translating this since I found a better way to tackle it...unlike before when I wasn't so use to translating Viet to English.  But I still got stuck here and there, especially when it came to the names of the dishes and such.  So expect errors xD  Just hope the overall message is good enough :)

Oh while translating, I had no idea what "Linda BB" meant!  The nickname was so unfamiliar but yah....so BB means "baby" right?  lols

Vol: 476 - Falling in Love with Linda Chung

Being in the industry for 8 years, Linda Chung got a lot more fans from a very sexy deep v advertisement photo. It was such a shock to see Linda’s sexy side.

Linda’s life has been amazingly smooth. She finished school, then entered the beauty pageant, and got into the entertainment industry. Her first drama brought her to the first line but it is also because she has the beauty for it.

In many peoples' eyes keeping a good image is very hard, and a lot of beautiful new artists will go on magazines and all; but to leave everyone with a pure feeling is very rare (so that is at the moment).

Linda is starting to believe “My real home is at Canada, Hong Kong is just a place to work, I believe that at the end I will return back to Canada.” But Hong Kong does bring a lot more opportunities to her, “Income here is much better than an elementary school teacher back in Canada!” I can also collect rent from properties I own in Hong Kong and I can also have a nice house for my parents.

But Linda will have lonely times, her family is on the other side of the world and rumored boyfriend doesn’t have any more news; she is all alone just making money. This just concludes to Linda being a good girl, and putting this name to Linda definitely suits her well.

Breakthrough

Even though Linda is very young she had already experience a lot. But if you’re expecting Linda’s current news, her ups and downs, the work she’s done to get to where she is now, or the sob stories. Sorry! Linda cannot help you, you just need to provide care like a little girl; but within this you will not feel a bit of boredom.

Being in the industry does create a lot of pressure to one, at times it also creates anxiety, emotional problems, and all these almost lead Linda to explode.

“I am a pressured person, especially with work but it’s just growing up. Having so much pressure it changes my attitude too! For example, when I was younger no matter what type of situation I was in I would feel really nervous, even for awards I would feel nervous, I would start with hand shaking, palm sweating. To be honest I don’t know why this happens I just believe that, that was the beginning of my anxiety. 4-5 years ago, I started to experience insomnia, it was the serious kind! Consecutively for 3 months I couldn’t sleep, even my friends say I look like a zombie, I was totally out of it and I wasn’t thinking clearly.”

Linda tried many different ways to cure her insomnia, even a trip back to Canada, and hope that she’ll finally go back to normal. “At that time I was really down and my friend suggested for me to go back to Canada, and stay in Canada since you can't handle your job in Hong Kong.”

“I finally decided to go search for god, so god can accept the fact that I have insomnia; gladly my insomnia got cured. Even though I rarely go to church, I believe that as long as your heart belong with god, it will be fine.”

She then got baptized, and she has been catholic for 4 years now.

Hardworking Linda

Working in the industry is not like any other jobs, if you can’t get notice or get any attention, you should just drop out.

That is exactly where all Linda’s pressure comes from; she pushes it to the limit when it comes to getting awards and doing her best within her job. Mama Chung would always bring Linda to the temple to know her luck for the year.

“Since I was small I would always go to the temple, and usually follow my mom around. She also believed in Fung Shui, so our house would always be filled with a lot of stuff. I tried asking a shifu why wasn’t my past good? He said, it’s because I’m consider as a rat and this and that. Then said that I’m a very smart girl, and I’m consider the king of rats, and how I would be very successful. He also mentioned that within the years 2012 and 2013 she will be the most successful within her career, she’ll get awards but I don’t believe that at all. I mean every single year I have a chance.” “In fact after I got baptized I got calmer, I know that god will tell me to be happier, enjoy my job, and love people and it’ll be fine.

Lonely Linda

Linda’s outer appearance is a very simple person, and talks very politely towards everyone. But just looking at her outer appearance you can already tell she is very lonely.

“My personality is very chicken, really afraid of things, and will absolutely not do anything risky. Almost all my friends think I would be the first to get marry and have kids, but instead I’m actually one of the last ones, some of them already have 2 kids.”

But she was given the gift of being able to work in Hong Kong, where Linda automatically stayed and worked. If she stayed in Canada, she would not be where she is today.

“I can only say this; I’m really grateful coming to Hong Kong to work and the results that arose are amazing. Especially with the income, if I were to stay in Vancouver I would have been an elementary school teacher and the income wouldn’t have been too well, but it was my two best friends and my dream job. Plus finding a stable teaching job isn’t that easy.”

Right now Linda has some properties in Hong Kong so she can collect rent, and just purchased a new house for her parents in Canada, but it’s all because she’ve been hard at work in Hong Kong.

“Working alone in Hong Kong makes me feel very alone. I really cannot live by myself. In Canada I would have my older sister to keep me company; we would even go to the washroom together! During days when I’m free I would usually stay at home and cook soup. Sometimes I would go out to shop, but I would quickly get what I need then head right home.”

Finding Love…

Linda is 28 and you may not have noticed but she has been living in Hong Kong for 8 years. Even though she is used to living the lifestyle in Hong Kong, she will always consider Canada as her home. She says that she will come back to Canada to live and start her family there.

"I do not consider that my path in life is wrong. I'm doing my favorite job and everyone has their own path. Before I planned to marry around 24-25, a shifu said I will absolutely get married before I turn 30; right now I just want to get married at the age at 31."

The only problem is that Linda has announced that she is single and has not found her ideal man yet. During many interviews, every time Phillip Ng’s name (rumored boyfriend) was mentioned, Linda would not be very happy.

"I will get married but I will not purposely find love and let it go with the flow. My mom always rushes me too but I say that it's better if you don't. The more you rush me, the more I rush myself and the more I get nervous can lead to finding the wrong guy instead. It's even worse to get married then realize that we have a problem between each other. All I know is that I will have a child because my mom said having a baby is what all women need to have. This is because women have received the gift of giving birth to children. Having a child makes everything perfect."

After placing a goal of marrying at 31, Linda still doubts the fact that that’ll be accomplishable  First of all, Linda haven't found her ideal man yet and second of all, her TVB contract will be done when Linda is 33.

“I have no comment! When love comes I still need to have money to support myself first! “

Linda actually has a second side to her!

Prince Charming Leon Lai

Linda was born in Vancouver, the environment she grew up in much differ from Hong Kong.

Straight until high school graduation, Linda’s dream/ideal man was one of the 1990s Cantopop Four Heavenly Kings, Leon Lai. “Leon’s voice is so sweet, and don’t you feel static from his eyes! Don’t you notice it?” “Before I would day dream and see that Leon will come and pick me on a white horse, dressed as a prince, so we can go live in his castle.” Linda said while laughing.

“But since I got into the industry I still haven’t met him, I always wanted to and I still have the same love for him!”

To be honest, Linda back then was just like a little crazed fan girl who chased after many celebrities. Linda would always say she didn’t find her ideal man so: “I am just waiting for my prince charming to come, but he just haven't arrive yet!”

Just like any of my friends, after knowing Leon and Gaile were about to get married, I immediately bravely posted on Facebook. Leon succeeded many years of chasing after Gaile. But now Leon is back to being single, this news should be good for single ladies.

Linda are you ready for your prince charming?

Yes Magazine Vol.1127 - English Translation

Linda’s drama series has normally been followed by one after another, but with none at present she is still making appearances on our television screens. Linda is currently focusing on her singing career at the moment, working hard on music recordings and making special guest appearances on music programs, promoting her new song “You’re my other half”.

Earlier in the year, Linda promised she’ll be releasing an album, and her fans were worrying when this will actually happen as the year comes to an end. Fans need not to worry as Linda has just finished recording all her songs, confirming the release date of her new album to be on the 23rd November, highlighting that love will be the main theme.

Whether or not we have heard her songs, I’m sure we will all be infatuated with Linda personally singing!

MV in uniform (p.26)

Recently Linda was shooting her music video for the song “You’re my other half”, which revolves around the story of a nurse (played by her) and her patient whose a member of the triads (played by a Japanese model). His occurring injuries and their time seeing each other eventually develops into a love story.

In the MV, a male Japanese model is involved with Linda saying, “I‘ve waited so long for this opportunity. My previous MV’s have mainly been just me, now there’s a male model and it’s the first time I’ve collaborated with a Japanese guy, so really excited! When I initially started shooting, I wanted to get Bosco Wong as the patient due to the similarities when we were both in “Witness Insecurity”. In the drama series I was waiting for him so felt this too would be similar. But Bosco is currently busy, so I’ll find him next time when he’s free!”

If Linda and Bosco will really shoot an MV together in the future, “Witness Insecurity” fans will definitely be delighted!

Young Sailor Moon (p.26)

Linda’s new look, dressed up like a tender angel clothed in white clotes, is a new and interesting area for her to explore.

“Having starred in a lot of drama series, I have never acted as a nurse. This time I can actually have a feel of trying on a nurse’s uniform. My childhood dream was actually to become a nurse, but as I got older I felt scared, feel sick and could not breathe whenever I see blood or operations. In the end I pursued something else; I really loved children so I wanted to become a teacher instead.

Linda also confessed whilst she has never worn any uniform, she loved playing dress up when she was young; “I dressed up and posed as Sailor moon and would steal mum’s clothes to play!”.

Actually Sailor moon is a type of uniform, so maybe Linda did wear uniforms before!

Album singing “Love, Love, Love” (p.27)

Linda has said for a long time she’ll be releasing an album, which will finally be released on the 23rd November with the countdown already beginning!

It was announced earlier that she had finished recording the last song, and she can now focus on advertising and promoting her new album. The new album "Love, Love, Love", with love as the central theme, focuses on different aspects of love so there will be plenty of slow songs.

“There are currently 11 songs, including the recently released 'Vaccine' and 'You’re my other half', there will also be my newly created song 'Simple Friendship'. Plenty of stress involved whilst working on this album; these included a lack of sleep and bad skin complexion.

Regarding pictures for the album, previous pictures revolved around the feeling of “hurt”, but this time happiness will be the main focus, hoping it’ll leave a positive and happy impression.

Always looking to improve (p.27)

Linda’s performances so far have been eye catching, at the same time as an artist, this comes along with the associated pressure of singing. “I have jumped from the tv screen to the music industry, afraid of people thinking that I am not taking it seriously. So every time I perform, I do my best and set myself high expectations”.

“There’s still a long road ahead with plenty to learn, so I hope to sing with different styles. Audiences tend to think of me as good and obedient, don’t know a lot of things, don’t know how to dance etc. But I want to change people’s perceptions. I want to try out new things every year, to progress step by step, to change people’s views that I can only sing slow, love songs to singing fast and wild songs”.

Besides releasing a new album, Linda has also started shooting a new drama series! “I have just started shooting “Big Wheel”, recently been doing research on different films, drama series, new acting techniques and new ideas. This time I’ll be collaborating with Ruco Chan, Edwin Siu and Louis Yuen, hoping to create good chemistry between us!

Wow...shooting and promoting the album at the same time, Linda is indeed very hard working!

[Magazine] Sudden Weekly vol.894 - Linda’s mother ‘follows’ her around

Good girl Linda has always been a saver, spending very little money and saving it all for her family. At the end of last year, she bought a handbag worth 6 figures for her mother as a Christmas present. This year, “Sudden Magazine” discovered that she had used HK$15 million to buy a house in Vancouver for her family to live in!

Besides working very hard to earn money for her family, Linda also brings her mother along to work related functions. On the 9th of September, she brought her mother along to the “2012 Top Ten Healthy Stars Awards” [健康第壹大獎 2012] ceremony and was seen accompanying her throughout the venue. On the day, Linda was busy doing various interviews and her mother stood quietly backstage. She did not have a chance to talk to her beloved daughter until the ceremony had concluded. However, as soon as the cameras started rolling, Linda created a very awkward atmosphere by not admitting [that the lady there was] her mother. In actual fact, Linda only did this because she was afraid that her mother would be caught on cameras which she did not want and her deed was well-intentioned.

Linda continues to walk away whilst her mother calls her. In order to protect her mother from getting photos taken of her, Linda pretended to not hear her mother call her, which made her seem like she was ignoring her mother and being unfilial.
Backstage, Linda’s mother held her beloved daughter’s bags. It was hard work for her mother who had to hold 3 bags.
Linda and her mother are very close and she even posted photos of food her mother had cooked for her on weibo.
